The BEST resort ever.
I’ve been to Alton towers a few times, and all of those times I’ve walked out smiling. My top 3 rollercoasters would be smiler, nemesis and galactica, I definitely recommend visiting!
Review of app, not the Park. Some small probs you should know of, but pretty overall.
The App is good! The map is easy to navigate and the search function returns good results. The on-foot navigation works, but occasionally I found slightly shorter routes. It might be something to do with it consistently placing me 5-10 meters to the left of me IRL, so it though I was consistently either swimming in water, or clambering through trees to get where I was going! This kind of thing makes a difference when you consider you could easily walk 6 miles in the day.
The ride info is slow to update - which is a problem, as you will dash across the park for a ride that is in fact closed (a common problem for Alton).
You also can’t pay in-app with APL or GLG Pay which is shortsighted of Merlin as it adds a hurdle to potential customers. Paying the long way round does function just fine though.
If you do buy tickets/passes on there, they should add to the app seamlessly, and you can also add tickets retrospectively if you have your email and transaction number, which is useful.

Not accessible friendly
The park has lots of amazing rides and beautiful surroundings. However the park is not accessible friendly at all. I use a mobility scooter and to access rides I had to leave my mobility scooter and then walk to the ride rather than at other parks enter at the exit. Half of the rides had stairs to walk to get to the ride rather than being able to go from the scooter onto the ride. Flamingo land do it this way and it means that you can get on a ride without having to walk. After the ride you exit and have to then walk back to the entrance which is a distance from the exit. This made the visit really difficult and disappointing. The access pass was not easy either, having to scan to go on a ride but then wait for nearly an hour to get on another making it a long day of waiting which is something that is hard to do and also frustrating for my neurodivergent child who has major issues with times and having to wait so again this was our first and likely last visit unless the access to rides is changed and the pass.

App not working how it should.
I downloaded the app so all my information was together (staying in the hotel, two day tickets for the park, two dinner reservations and additional add on) and kept telling me that the search for all my details has failed. None of my info went onto the app, which meant I had to print everything off. Tried everything to actually talk to someone about it and had no luck and the live chat didn’t help at all. The app is brilliant for knowing the queue times but could be so much better.
