The Best Captain

I’ve tried my fair share of marine navigation and anchor alarm apps over the years, but AnchorQueen is honestly in a league of its own. What started as an incredibly reliable, no-nonsense anchor watch has quietly grown into a complete, intelligent co-captain for my boat.

Ruined a good app

This used to be a very good and easy to use anchor alarm app. I had used it for years. Now it’s trying to be an everything marine app and it’s just way too complicated. So very disappointing.

Response from developer

We have completely redesigned Captain's experience with new release. Now it has many new experiences.

What happened to the old app?

I’ve been using the app for years and loved it. Simple and straight forward and reliable. When I used the app at the end of last season it was great! Went to use it for the first time this year and what happened to it? It Is not even close to the same. In fact I closed it out and looked through my apps to see if had opened a different anchor app. It is now so complicated and does not show your track in your anchor circle so you know where you have been swinging. It no longer has augmented reality which is a feature I loved. It’s not easy to set your anchor radius distance. There is too much “stuff” on the screen and too many different screens now. I could go on and on. Needless to say I am now looking for a new anchor app. Too bad they had to go and ruin it. I hate it!

You’ve ruined a great app!

What have you done? No more satellite images, lots of complexity nobody needs. You had a great app I have used for years. I want to go back to the old one!

Response from developer

After the port from SafeAnchor to AnchorQueen for best Captain's Chart experience with Weather Data. We hope you really like our new Charts experience.

Apple Maps Sucks

New update ruined the app! I have been using the app for years. I used it to set anchor location with Bing Satellite map. Now Apple maps shows me nothing! Time to find a new Anchor App!

Response from developer

Sorry the update took away the view you anchored with for years — that was the one map change we most worried about. A satellite base map is back among the chart layer options (layers button → base maps), alongside the new nautical charts. If it still doesn't show what you need, email support@anchorqueen.com and we'll make it right.

Doesn’t work

I used to love this app. It used to work really well. Simple and easy to set. Now it’s too complicated and doesn’t go off when it should. I forgot to turn it off when we upped anchor and it took over 1nm before the alarm sounded. So disappointed as I used to trust this alarm.

Response from developer

Thank you for the honest note — an anchor alarm that doesn't fire is the one failure we're not allowed to have. Since your review the watch was rebuilt: it now double-checks GPS quality before arming, warns in steps before the siren, and survives restarts. If you'll give it one more try, write support@anchorqueen.com and a real person will walk through your setup with you.

Really impossible to get remote anchor to work properly

It’s hit or miss. I’ve had it work then when I go to another anchorage the remote iPhone won’t reliably get the right data from my iPad on the boat. Just terribly wonky

Response from developer

You're right that Remote was hit or miss between anchorages — reconnection was the weak point. The remote link has since been rebuilt around a live channel with push alerts ashore, and it's the part of the app we test hardest now. If a new anchorage still drops the link, support@anchorqueen.com reaches the people who built it.

New look!

The new look is good. It took me a while to figure out the new anchor set screen and am happy I found the 'set to last position'. Very handy since the app does crash sometimes, but only when you're in it, never when I'm sleeping. Only configuration I haven't found yet is the ability to set units.

Server - Remote mode

The server does not always connect with remote, frustrating and lowers confidence.

Response from developer

Fair criticism — confidence is the whole point of a remote watch. The server/remote connection has been reworked since this review, with a live channel and alerts that reach you ashore. If it still wobbles for you, we'd genuinely like the details: support@anchorqueen.com.

Mouillage sécurisé

Excellente application indispensable pour éviter de laisser les instruments de bord en marche la nuit.

Poor anchor alarm

Anchor alarm only sounds once as a notification and waits for acknowledgment. So if you sleep through it won’t sound again. You can’t rely on this app for anchoring.

Response from developer

Dear Steve, You can easily change this setting in Sound And Notifications page on the device settings. So it will never stops playing until your action.

Drag alerts

I keep getting drag alerts when clearly the boat has not moved...

Great app except

This app is great, but setting the anchor after the fact is so ridiculously unusable that it makes the entire app worthless if you forgot to bring your phone to the bow when dropping the anchor.

Response from developer

That frustration was fair — dropping anchor and then fighting the app to mark where it actually went defeats the purpose. Setting and adjusting the anchor point after the fact (including from your track) has been reworked since. If the flow still fights you, tell us at support@anchorqueen.com.

not very reliable

I’ve noticed app freeze sometime ,and you need to restart it.
No need to say you can’t rely on partially working app for that matter ! What I did I get another one more reliable.

Response from developer

Kindly upgrade the latest version in order to fix the issue. It is related the memory usage of some iPhone devices. It is working now without any issue.

Not Reliable...but a well planned app

I downloaded this to monitor remotely, it’s one of the only anchor alarm apps that allows real-time tracking via another device. This is a fantastic feature. Unfortunately the app on my iPhone and two other iPhones will freeze. We live aboard our yacht and our anchor position is vital to our safety. This is a secondary anchor alarm to supplement our main chartplotters anchor alarm which is rock solid, however even as a backup, it has to work. Any freezing or crashing is simply unacceptable for something so important. If the developers can get that issue worked out, this will be the best alarm app on the store by miles.

Kindly upgrade the latest version in order to fix the issue. It is no more freeze or unexpected crash. It is reliable.

Not accurate enough

Good app idea and easy enough to use but I set the alarm at 30m radius and it kept going off even though we were still in the same place.
Our position was moving in the app purely because of the GPS variations.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. It is using simple moving average in order to eliminate the error caused by poor GPS signal.

L alarme ne sonne pas c est bidon!!! Arnaque

Arnaque

Response from developer

Terrifying

I really needed this to work in Lady Musgrave lagoon on the Great Barrier Reef and it did nothing but give false alarms to the point where it kept me awake all night and I ignored it when we did drag. Way worse than useless.

Response from developer

It uses gps location update of the device and accuracy completely depends on the device model.

Sonni tranquilli

Finalmente sonni tranquilli con safe anchor

Don’t waste your money

I was looking forward to using this app after reading the reviews but lets give an honest review under practical application. I sail/anchor in Mexico where there is little cellular coverage in remote places. The first night we used it the alarm went off at 2 a.m., after checking my other anchor drag apps we determined we had not moved at all. The next day went to check our position and the app had lost my position all together and I had to set to last position. I used the app for three weeks straight every day and it frequently just lost our position and had to be reset to last position, I had to set the position manually every time, and the use of the app is not intuitive as you would expect it to be. It would be nice to have the app always be on so you could quickly glance at your position and know everything is ok but it goes to sleep and most time just loses you position. This app is frighting enough I would even like my money back and I will not use this in the future.
