STILL horrible app and website (news is great)

Ads, ads, ads… Why would I donate money for a product that is this bad? AP News has the worst app (and an even worse website). The app causes my ipad to stall, which no other app does. The website is disgusting with more ads than journalism. I support AP News, so get it together and figure out how to present your world-class reporting properly.

Was great until recent update

Now has constant ad popups. Can’t get through one story without 10 interruptions. Sad.

Good app with a frustrating “feature”

When I search for a keyword eg “elections” it shows me the relevant articles in a random order, not chronologicall with the most recent articles at the top. As a result, if I want to periodically monitor “elections,” every time I do a search for the same keyword I have to go through ALL the articles to make sure the app didn’t squirrel some recent ones at the bottom of the list. How hard would it be to order them by date posted? As a computer scientist and former software developer, I know it shouldn’t be that hard at all.

Bugs

Content consistently does not load and has been a problem for months.

Not breaking news

I like AP news for bringing news without the hoopla. What I do NOT like about this App is that I set my settings to breaking news only and I’m getting non breaking news constantly - e.g. “how to keep your child’s tablets from being a distraction from schoolwork”. AP’s idea of breaking news is not my idea.

Working smoothly again

Really appreciate the quick developer response and explanation. AP News has been my go-to for some time now.

5Stars to 1Star to 5stars After Aug Updates

The app was great (5 stars) until an Aug. update. Then it said “Try again” many times and did not load any news. After I complained here, AP News replied and made a small, undated mod, and fixed it.

Videos starting automatically

The articles are well written, but the app was recently updated to remove the ability to stop autoplaying videos. Now they just start blasting away as soon as you scroll past. I’ve cancelled my monthly donation until they fix this.

Just lost me as a customer

Subject: Lost customer due to intrusive mobile-app experience
I’m writing to explain why AP News has lost me as a customer. The repeated prompts, interruptions, and aggressive messaging in the mobile app felt less like customer engagement and more like harassment. They significantly interfered with simply checking the news.
I have decided to stop using the app—and cancel my subscription, if applicable—because of this experience. Please share this feedback with your mobile product and leadership teams. An app should respect its users rather than repeatedly pressure or interrupt them.

Love the app - not worth spending more money and being harassed.

New Headlines Dead

Big headlines do not open any related stories. Unusable!

Bad news articles really horrible

The title says something and when I open the article the news says something exactly different. Seriously, APNews? We thought you are good journalism. It looks like you just want clicks!!! I will not donate until you behave yourself and don't become like Fox News and CNN.

Broken autoplay ads

Sound started autoplaying on ads that also bait you into clicking with ‘play sound’ buttons (to turn it off). Ad auto expands and can’t be scrolled past.

APnews feedback form links directly to Jira and wont proceed without fields fully filled out, and wont take a fake or blank URL. I am not clicking on the ad. Do your own damn QA

Aggressive adware

You can’t even scroll through the articles without triggering an advertisement opening in an external browser. Often it’s an advertisement that hasn’t even loaded in the AP News app yet, so even if you try to avoid ads while scrolling you can’t avoid it. Obviously they get paid by the click, so they force clicks. The news is good; the UI is borderline fraudulent.

Meh

Push notifications on iOS are completely broken. I set them to Breaking only, and I get everything. I set them to nothing, and I get everything. Otherwise a good app. Still broken 8/2026.

Excellent & Free

This app provides the latest news, written in a professional and unbiased manner. And, unlike apps such as Reuters and CNN, it’s totally free. It’s now my primary source for U.S. and world news.

Racial tensions

Why do you guys constantly push divisive conflicts between White and black people on your platform? There is more to the world than social justice issues.

Buggy

This app is consistently buggy no matter how often it’s updated. *Sigh*

Ads cover content, but it’s free

AP News is one of the rare free news apps available, and is fairly comprehensive. Ads are to be expected as a trade off. However, the ads often render such that they cover content. This is especially noticeable on the homepage, when they cover titles of articles. This is why I am rating it 4/5 stars.

Good content… except the ads

The ads have long been a problem, sometimes blocking content and at other times preventing page scrolling by opening the ad any time it is pressed, I.e., when trying to scroll past it. The app loses a lot of appeal when you’re trying to view more content but are forcefully directed to an advertiser website.
