알고리즘이 돌봄케어로 사는 사람입니다. 어떤 고민이 있으면 그 고민 딱 짚는 글 뜨고, 관심 생기면 바로 영상 옵니다. 근데 문득 그런 생각이 들더라고요. 내가 뭐 좋아하는지도 얘가 먼저 알고 갖다주는 거 아닌가. 그래서 홧김에 받았습니다, 이 앱. 아직 안 써봤지만 일단 알고리즘없이 한번 살아보려고요.

Perfect App
Been using are.na religiously since like 2022. It feels almost like a journal, something to look back on that encapsulates your interests over time. Really good stuff!

A friend put me into this platform and it’s really revived my interest in online spaces. I think it’s what I loved about tumblr and what I wish Pinterest was. Glad I landed here.

Beautiful and Easy to use
Are.na is life. I use it daily and rely on it for everything from academic research to mood boards to shopping lists. A great mobile app for a great web app!
Serious ethucal concerns. Turned into a place for men to store private naked photos of women
used to love Arena. It felt like a thoughtful, experimental space for designers, artists, and researchers to collect and share visual references. Even though it’s basically a glorified Pinterest for creatives, it had a curatorial ethos that made it feel intentional and community-driven.
Over time, though, I’ve watched it turn into something much more troubling. Increasingly, Arena hosts large, unregulated collections of nude women uploaded by men, often framed loosely as “erotica” or “reference,” but without names, context, credit, or any indication of consent. In many cases, these appear to be private or scraped images, not published art, and there is no way to verify whether the people depicted are adults, whether they agreed to their images circulating in this way, or even where the images came from.
What’s disturbing is not the presence of sexuality per se, but the complete absence of safeguards, attribution, or accountability. When users raise concerns, the content is often defended as aesthetic or artistic, but art does not require anonymity, and erotica does not require erasure. A platform that positions itself as a design and research tool should not function as an unmoderated archive of unidentified naked women.
Arena’s hands-off approach feels less like openness and more like neglect. Without clearer policies, moderation, or ethical standards, the platform risks becoming a repository for exploitation rather than a space for creative exchange. That shift has made it increasingly uncomfortable to use, and it’s the reason I no longer feel able to recommend it.

One of the best apps of our modern smartphone times
I’ve been using Are.na for over 3 years now, and this website/app has given me the ability to organize ideas, future gifts for friends/loved ones, recipes to be remembered, Youtube Tutorials, and I use it daily for building visual treatments for work (Design + Art Direction)
It should not be understated how many rabbit holes can be explored on Arena among its users. Arena feels like the internet that I grew up with. There’s so much to be gained from Arena. Whether organizing ideas/images for a project or hosting your own portfolio as a PDF for others to see. I’m finding new ways every week to use Are.na. Even after 3 years.
If you’re big into archiving, in any sense, you would greatly benefit from using Are.na
