What's New in Artemis Director's Viewfinder

8.8.2

August 4, 2026

Helios Live-View comes to Artemis, plus a whole new way to work in the gallery. HELIOS LIVE-VIEW • See the sun's path traced right over your live camera view, so you can plan exactly where the light will fall. • See the sun's path through the day with the time slider. • Jump to any date to see how the light will look on your shoot day. • Calibrate to the real-time sun position. NON-DESTRUCTIVE LAYERD FOR IMAGES IN GALLERY • Annotate images, add Text, apply LUTs, add virtual Stand-in, use multiple Framelines, then use the Storyboard tools - then edit and decide what will be exported later. • Each overlay is now on its own layer. You can edit, remove or toggle the overlays at any time — the original image is preserved. • Zoom box in the Storyboarding tools now locks to the frame's aspect ratio. • Layers sync across all devices, including Artemis Studio for Mac. Plus a range of refinements and fixes across the camera, gallery, ECM and device calibration.

Our best in set tool

When Artemis first debuted it didn’t take long for us to mostly shed every other old style and cumbersome finder - be they lens-on or the viewfinder type. Working as we do with minimum 3 cameras, and often more on Landman and Lioness, the time savings are significant given we do in the order of 60+ set ups a day. The fact my operators, the director, myself and indeed every crew member has a viewfinder in their pocket and can immediately see what we are aiming for is a godsend on set and invaluable in prep. I now have the art and location departments using them for previs and scouting. And it just keeps getting better.

Support about the brand new UVC feature.

I tested the app’s support for the new UVC feature (for external camera monitoring), which is available in the latest version of the app.

I was able to test this feature on my iPhone because the option was available during the first few days after the update. I did a quick test with a Nikon ZR that I rented for the occasion, and I really liked the feature.

Since the feature disappeared after a few days, I contacted support, who did two things: first, they helped me understand what had happened with the extension, and second, their service was very efficient and quick.

As a buyer of the version since 2023, I’m glad that it works well in every aspect, whether during use or when dealing with an issue.

I’m looking forward to seeing this feature available again on the iPhone app; I find the format much more interesting for a monitor when shooting handheld shots.

Best Directors Viewfinder

Great app! Essential for cinematographers on any production. Artemis is really pushing the feature set forward too. The Helios integration, live streaming and Mac app are a welcome upgrade!

Thanks for help.

I had some problem with the app in recovering the old password. As soon as I contacted to the Artemis team (Nick), he helped me. Thanks Nick & Artemis for responding & helping me so quickly.
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏

The gold standard for a digital viewfinder

There’s a reason this one is trusted by top cinematographers and has the awards to back it up. The camera and lens database is comprehensive, the framing is accurate, and having every lens in my pocket makes communication on set so much easier. Manual image control, LUT previews, custom frame-lines, and streaming to nearby crew are all things I use constantly. The Helios sun-tracking addition is fantastic for planning exteriors. Fast, precise, and fully customizable — it genuinely helps me shoot a better film.
