Not many other language options

Kinda disappointed i can’t learn japanese on here back to duolingo i guess

Inferior product

Refuses to allow voice features unless you give them permission to record, store and use your voice for ai training. I wish I’d known that before I paid $100+.

Meh

It’s been very hard to retain what I’ve learned. App wants to keep pushing forward

Babbel is better than Duolingo.

I was Duolingo user for a few years and the games, sparse repetition and clumsy translations made it a pain.

Babbel has adopted Duolingo’s clumsy translations. I remember those from learning a language in High School several decades ago. I've wondered if the training material started with the British English translation and the sentences do not match how an American would say it or if the source material was a foreign language to English and they simply flipped the order. I recently had an exercise the English sentence was “I can do it quickly” the foreign language answer was literally “I can do it”. There was no modification for the adverb quickly. It is the majority of the examples lately. I noticed this when DuoLingo started using AI for their content. A few of these would be okay if they were idiomatic expressions.

I don't know why they consistently pick an awkward English sentence. Is it they are using British idioms in the middle? Is it AI slop? Also tenses are often inconsistent which can be confusing too.
