One-Star Credit

4/10/26 - I’m coming from MoneyWIZ [MW], for some perspective. (Please note that, Balance only imports CSV files, which most accounting software can export to.) I think this is going to be a great application, but, it is buggy, and, on macOS its UI is not strictly macOS standard. I have emailed the developer, recently, so let’s see how it goes. Anyway, yes it is quite buggy, but if it were not for that, this would be perfect for me, and I would recommend it for anyone wanting a basic bank account ledger that’s obvious, and, mostly intuitive to use. So, it’s a 3-Star now, but with all bugs fixed it’s an easy 4, if not, 5-Star app. (In no small part due to the flexibility of the subscription model. It’s the way all app subscriptions should be handled.) So that’s my review. Read on if you must. When adding database elements, to say, “Categories”, it is very slow to update. I believe this accounts for most of the complaints I’ve read for the IOs version. It’s so slow, and somewhat cumbersome, that it seems as though it’s not taking the changes or additions. I’ve even had to restart the app on mobile and desktop a couple of times, in order to get things sorted out. My suspicion is that the app is coming from a Windows development, based on some basic oversights in the macOS UI. None of them are deal-killers. Before MW I used Accounts 3, (and 2), for several years and really liked it, but the syncing was really unreliable and I grew weary of worrying about corrupting databases and etc. Now, that app seems to be abandoned. Balance is very much along those lines, nice and straightforward, and while syncing is a bit slow, it’s handling some pretty large accounts with ease, (in terms of syncing). I really have high hopes for Balance.

Response from developer

Thank you for the detailed review and feedback. I received your email and sent a reply with some additional details. The slow update issue could be related to a bug in macOS 26.4 and iOS 26.4 that Apple has fixed in 26.4.1. Updating might resolve it, but if it doesn't, please let me know via email so I can investigate further. Regarding the macOS UI, you're right that there is room for improvement and I'm working on it. I appreciate your patience and kind words!

CVS Imports All Ad Deposits

Well I have downloaded, installed the app on my MacBook and downloaded a QSV file from my bank and imported it. It put all the transactions in as deposits. This was my checking account so most of these are withdrawals. I am going thru and correcting all the transactions that are not deposits. Disappointed that I have to correct these. I don’t know if I will be keeping this app or not. If I have to correct every withdrawal so it doesn’t show as a deposit in this app what is the point? I can just enter the transactions manually as I have already been doing in MS Money Sunset in my Win 11 Lenovo.

Response from developer

Thanks for trying Balance. The app imports CSV files and supports multiple common layouts with customization during import. If withdrawals imported as deposits, it usually comes down to the CSV’s amount/sign layout. Balance works best with either signed amounts (withdrawals as negative) or separate Income/Expense columns (no sign needed). Please contact us via Settings → Email Us in the app so we can help you with your specific export format.

Love it

I really like how it makes tracking my expenses fast and actually enjoyable. The detailed reports and simple budgeting tools are really helping me control my spending.

A GREAT FINANCIAL APP.

This is a wonderful Personal Finance App, clear, precise and easy to use. The Support is by far the BEST. Believe me, I’ve tried most of the Financial Apps on the App Store and this one shines far brighter than the rest. Most importantly…. It doesn’t cost a fortune either….

Too many issues!

I was hoping this would be a good app. It’s simple which is what I was looking for.

When trying to change a description, most of the time, it won’t change.

It’s adds duplicate transactions.

Account balances are off.

My search for a simple personal finance app continues….this app has too many bugs.
