I like the app, but…

It seems to give a lot of false negatives? I even use various recordings of american pronunciation but on some words it gave me 80%.

Perfection

I don’t know if it’s because I set my goal to sound like a native speaker, but the app keeps showing me where I can improve—and I love that because it’s true. Even though many teachers have told me my English is already good, the app continues to point out areas where I can get even better.

慣れると続けられますよ

今日、毎朝　2つずつやるレッスンが連続370日に到達しました。発音はやはり良くなっているようで、ネイティブや外国から来た人に英語で話しかけたときに日本人と思えないことがあります。先ほどやったスコアは97%ですが、それがどれぐらいできてるのかいまひとつわかりませんが、アプリのアップデートも頻繁にされて、話しながらアプリがどの音をキャッチアップしたのかもわかるようになりました。私はIELTSの大学院レベルのスコアを出さなくてはいけないので、発音も基礎からやり直そうとこのアプリを始めましたが。まだ流暢に話せるわけではないので、もう1年は続けようと更新をすることにしました。

I won’t say much, but the app nails everything that a real coach would do or even better in some cases, like unlimited retries and video mirror to see how your lips or mouth moves. Just brilliant! 😎👍🏻

Frustrating subscription and cancellation experience

I am very disappointed with how the trial and cancellation process is handled on this app. I signed up for a 1-week free trial, but trying to cancel before getting charged turned into a frustrating runaround between the app interface and the Stripe billing portal. The system makes it unnecessarily difficult to cancel your membership, routing you in circles while attempting to push through an annual charge. Be very careful starting a trial if you don't intend to keep a costly subscription.

The scoring system is a mess for certain sounds

Ih vs ee and uh vs ah have consistently incorrect scoring. Also, newer versions have too many lengthy sentence exercises that fail to focus on specific topics

Scam

Scam don’t use this app! My subscription was expired I never used the app only for 2 days and it’s terrible. And it was expired and still they charge me, watch out professional scammers.

Convenient and helpful

The app works for me very well. The AI picks up on certain nuances that I myself wouldn’t have paid attention to. And then the coaches give plenty of tips on how to fix the mispronounced sounds. It’s easy to use and the AI compiles a plan at the end of every unit that targets the sounds that I seem to have struggled with during the current unit. I can tell that the team has put a lot of thought into this project.

No se porque, si ya cancelé mi prueba de 7 días con BoldVoice aun me siguen cobrando, desde un principio me querían cobrar más de 100 dólares. Yo simplemente estaba intentando probar la app con el free trial y luego de aceptar el free trial me trataron de cobrar más de 100 dólares. Eso no se hace. Nunca más usaré su app.

Bug

I like this app but set 1 star to attract more attention from developers. I already wrote them that there was a bug and they responded with some excuse that says they will not change anything. The bug is: When I am using airpods, I can hear all sounds in aipods, but when I talk, my recorded sound is recorded from phone’s microphone and not airpod’s microphone! So in loud environment the recording is extremely weak if the phone is in your hand or hanging on some support, but when I talk straight to phone’s microphone even when airpods are connected, then sounds is recorded clearly. I also tried to use cable headphones with USB-C adapter. In that case the sound is recorded correctly from headphone’s microphone. So SAME headphones´ mic not working with bluetooth and work with cable.
The thing is that I bought subscription and in my case when I have some time and want to exercise I always hit the wall of this bug I just CANNOT use this app. I cannot carry cable headphones and adapter every time. This is a great app but this stupid bug is very frustrating.
For those users who want to use their AirPods just know, this app is NOT WORKING with them correctly.

BoldVoice uses your phone's built-in microphone because it provides the most consistent, high-quality audio for our speech analysis and pronunciation scoring. Even when AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones are connected, the app will continue recording through the device's built-in microphone to ensure the most accurate feedback. If you'd prefer not to use your phone's microphone, wired headphones with a built-in microphone (such as USB-C headphones) are fully supported and will record through the headset microphone. Only has one American accent

Overall this could be an amazing place to start, but it assumes that all regions in the states use the same accent. I noticed that any words said with a southern accent are counted as incorrect. (For example, pronouncing the g in young). Over all a great place to start, but I would recommend trying to also mimic the accent of people around you otherwise you’ll still sound like you’re not necessarily native.
