What's New in Buoyancy Calc

1.4

March 3, 2026

This update brings a completely refreshed look and feel to Buoyancy Calculator. The interface has been redesigned with a deep ocean-inspired dark theme — rich navy backgrounds, teal accents, and high-contrast text that's easy to read in bright sunlight or a dimly lit dive shop. The results panel at the bottom of the screen has been given more visual prominence, making your lead weight recommendation impossible to miss at a glance. Unit and water type selectors now use a styled segmented control with clear active/inactive states, and the exposure suit and tank pickers render with crisp, readable text throughout. Under the hood, the iOS deployment target has been updated to 15.6, ensuring compatibility with current devices and the latest system frameworks.

A little off

The app recommends 28 pounds based off of my standard setup but I dive with 24. Still though I would say this seems to give a decent estimate.

Could be better but good

Of course I see everything that says it over weighs, this is just a suggestion that I would like. The ability to not include the tank in the calculations for free diving because 7mm suits can be quite buoyant and may they need some weighing down, it may also be helpful for snorkeling

Possibly Good

This app is super simple to use, very intuitive.
It does however not match what I use (or others I checked with), weight wise.
Also, it appears to not correctly convert between pounds and kg.

Doesn’t work anymore

Used this for multi-mode buoyancy calculations as a ball-park estimation, mostly for vacation when diving in different configurations. Worked well for that application, but App doesn’t work anymore. Deleting.

Totally inaccurate

I’m a DM with 40 years experience i dive with 22 lbs the app Calc my required weight at 34lbs.

FAQ

What does Buoyancy Calc do?

Buoyancy Calc helps scuba divers determine the suggested amount of weight needed to achieve neutral buoyancy. It takes into account factors like your body weight, the type of water you're diving in, your tank, and your exposure suit.

How do I use Buoyancy Calc?

You enter your weight in either pounds or kilograms. Then, you select the type of water (e.g., freshwater, saltwater), the type of tank you are using, and the type of exposure suit you have on. The app will then provide a suggested weight.

Is Buoyancy Calc free to use?

Yes, Buoyancy Calc is a free application. There are no in-app purchases or advertisements mentioned in its description, indicating it is completely free for users.

What factors influence the suggested weight?

The app considers your personal weight, the type of water (freshwater or saltwater), the type of tank you are using, and the type of exposure suit you are wearing. These variables significantly impact the required ballast for neutral buoyancy.

Can this app guarantee perfect neutral buoyancy?

The app provides a good estimate based on PADI's guidelines. However, it notes that achieving peak performance buoyancy may require further adjustments based on individual factors like gender, physique, suit age, and accessories. It's a starting point, not a definitive solution for every dive.
