What's New in Butterfly iQ

2.49.0

June 30, 2026

We’re excited to bring you continued improvements with every release, including new functionality, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. Here’s what’s new in this version: • Butterfly is now cleared in additional countries, including iQ3 in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Slovenia; iQ+ in Brazil and Slovenia; and iQ+ Vet in India. • The Gestational Age tool now includes an upfront disclaimer clarifying that the tool is validated for use between 16–37 weeks of gestation. • The Gestational Age tool now displays an accuracy range alongside your result in Study Notes, so you always have the full clinical context. • A What's New card for the Gestational Age tool now surfaces automatically the first time you enter a scan session with an OB preset. • Text sizes in the Cardiac Output report are now consistent across all fields. • We fixed UI issues in worksheets where a background flash appeared when adding a worksheet and a screen flicker occurred when selecting options in a multiple-choice field. • We fixed an issue where What's New cards were cutting off text, images, and buttons on smaller iPads like iPad mini in landscape orientation. • We fixed an issue causing Teleguidance calls to drop when either participant attempted to capture a cine clip or save an image. • We fixed a crash that could occur when navigating back to the Profile screen after opening a submenu. Please visit support.butterflynetwork.com for more information. Thank you for being a part of the Butterfly community!

Demo only after 7 years

TLDR, after buying your butterfly and paying your subscription fee, after 7 years you should expect to have a demo only model and be forced to buy their newest product.
Bought in 2018 when it came out during my residency. Loved it. $400/year obligatory for first year. Fine. Can’t screenshot without getting a warning every time. Fine. Forcing updates just as you’re about to start scanning a patient. Fine.
Incessant email “offers” to upgrade your device to the newest one. Send to trash.
Then an email in 2025, 7 years later, stating they are abandoning your device from future updates for “security reasons.” Ok, fine. I don’t really need to update, app works fine.
Then you open your app to find big warning signs “NOT FOR PATIENT USE” and “DEMO ONLY.”
Can’t even use color flow or even measure lol.
I thought I bought an ultrasound machine; turns out it was just a 7 year lease.
Using both demo butterfly and my Eagleview (bought few years ago still working well). Eagleview actually fits in pocket and is my go to for diagnostics for that reason.
Butterfly only for needle guidance as the Eagleview does not visualize needle.
If you are going to buy butterfly, buy it used.

Best Value Buy

One of the best medical purchases I’ve ever made. Brings patient interaction back. Great immediate clinical value in the ICU and clinic. Highly recommend.

Depends on context

Your review of this machine is going to depend dramatically on your context. We previously had a different probe which worked with our iPad and it was much, much better but was apparently discontinued. If you are used to using a portable GE machine, this ultrasound is atrocious. If you’re used to not having one I’m sure it’s a nice addition. Our administration replaced nicer machines with these so they are understandably not well received.

Cardilogy

Use it frequently in office visits when patients are referred for various cardiovascular disease processes. Helps with CVD tia stratification as well.

Compatibility

Please allow this to also be used on MacBooks like the Air or the new Neo. Thanks
