About

Carol counts your rows and resizes knitting patterns to your gauge. Carol is free and shows no ads. You don't need an account. GIFTS BY CHRISTMAS EVE Turn a project into a gift with a date. Once Carol knows your pace, Carol works out how many minutes a day will do. A card on your project list shows all your gifts at a glance. From December 15, Carol looks back on your knitting year with you and turns it into a card to share. YOUR PATTERN ALWAYS IN VIEW Open a PDF from Mail or Safari right in Carol. Choose your size once, and Carol highlights every number that applies to you throughout the pattern. A marker bar shows the row you are on and moves along as you count, upwards for charts if you like. Draw on your pattern with Apple Pencil. A repeat counter keeps track of repeats on its own, and reminders appear on the right round. KNIT WITHOUT LOOKING Say a word like "next" and Carol adds a round. On iPhones with Face ID, one relaxed nod towards the front camera works too. When an increase round is due, Carol reads it to you, one round ahead if you like. On Apple Watch you count with a tap or a double tap. COUNTING MADE SIMPLE Tap the big number and set the count directly, for example when you are already at round 48. Like every round, it can be undone. If you like, reminders repeat every few rounds. TEMPERATURE BLANKET One row or one granny square a day in the color of the day. You enter the temperature yourself, and Carol picks the matching color from your scale. Carol needs no weather service and no location for this. Plan a mood blanket or advent stripes the same way. CROCHET WITH CAROL Carol plans crocheted circles and balls for amigurumi round by round and tells you the stitch count of every round. For a granny square blanket, Carol works out how many squares you need and counts them with you. The dictionary explains US and UK crochet terms. YOUR PATTERN IN YOUR YARN Is your yarn thicker, or does the size not fit? Carol recalculates every number from the real measurement, rounds to whole pattern repeats and shows you honestly how big the difference is. Carol also converts increases and decreases for sleeves and waist to your gauge. If another yarn might work, Carol checks it by yardage and works out how much you need from a weighed swatch. PLANNED TO FIT Carol plans a raglan sweater and a round yoke from the top down, round by round to the ribbing. Carol plans socks and hats to match your gauge and size. With one tap a plan becomes a project with counters and reminders. YARN AND SWATCHES Scan a yarn label to add it to your stash. Save your swatches once and every calculator uses them. FINISHED When a piece is done, Carol turns it into a card with a photo, your knitting time and your rounds. If you like, Carol removes the background behind the piece. Share the card with anyone you like. ON IPHONE, IPAD, WATCH AND TV If you like, Carol syncs your projects between iPhone and iPad through your private iCloud. On iPad the pattern sits next to the counter. On Apple TV you see your counter in large print, and with SharePlay you knit together with others. APPLE INTELLIGENCE ON YOUR DEVICE On devices with Apple Intelligence, Carol explains a step of your pattern in one sentence. Everything runs on your device and nothing goes to a server. The explanations can be wrong, and if in doubt your pattern applies. Without Apple Intelligence everything else works as usual. YOUR DATA STAYS WITH YOU Carol works without ads and without tracking. Your projects live on your device and, if you like, in your own iCloud. Carol backs them up automatically, and in Settings you bring a project back from a backup as a copy. All your data can be exported in an open file format. MADE IN COPENHAGEN Carol is made in Copenhagen. Send questions and suggestions to info@nordicappstudio.dk.

What's New in Carol

1.7.1

October 26, 2026

Carol is now completely free, with no ads. Everything you have created stays as it is. Carol plans temperature blankets with one row or one square a day in the color of the day. You enter the temperature, and Carol tells you the color. Mood blankets and advent stripes work the same way. Open a pattern in Carol straight from Mail or Safari. Choose your size once, and Carol highlights every number that applies to you. Turn a project into a gift with a date. Carol uses your pace to work out how many minutes a day will do by Christmas Eve. From December 15, Carol looks back on your knitting year with you. Counting is simpler now. Tap the big number to set the count directly. If you like, reminders repeat every few rounds. When you crochet, Carol works out circles and balls round by round and counts the squares of a granny square blanket. Carol checks whether another yarn will work and calculates how much you need from a weighed swatch. The pattern adjuster now also converts increases and decreases to your gauge. In Settings you see your backups and bring a project back as a copy. When a piece is finished, Carol turns it into a card with a photo and your numbers to share, with the piece cut out from its background if you like. In Knitting Mode the next instruction is now larger. Tap it to open the plan and pattern. Above the number pad, Next jumps to the next field. You can fill in a calculator without closing the keyboard. When you delete a project for good, the name of the person it was meant for goes with it. Carol also fixes a few small bugs.
