Terrible connection issues

I have had 2 occurrences where my Catlink Litter Box became disconnected from the Wifi and when trying to follow the process to reconnect, the Catlink Litter Box is often undetected, but sometimes will be detected and connected by Bluetooth momentarily whilst trying to configure the network connection, but the Bluetooth connection drops out and the process stops at 30%. I have tried everything to troubleshoot and even reached out for support but was asked for proof of purchase before any help was offered. I have the box and the model details, I bought the device from the Catlink site from Australia but can’t find my invoice. This response happened the first time the device disconnected from my home wifi. I had recently done a firmware upgrade and couldn’t get confirmation from the company if that was the issue. I eventually gave up asking for help and still used the device manually with no app connection. Several weeks later the litter box magically connected again. This time the device connection dropped out, I still tried the usual trouble shooting, even changed the wifi name as suggested somewhere I found reference to connectivity issues. None of it has been successful. I deleted the device from the app and tried to connect it again. I’m really tired of trying.

App is okay

The app is not the best and not the most user friendly and I know it’s not a huge deal but it’s in military time which yes I can read but I would just rather it not be. It does give updates and show me all the info I need on my cat but there definitely some changes I would love to see

Buggy

Super buggy, the words are on top of each other in spots they’re obviously not supposed to be. The 3 second ad in the beginning is a really poor touch considering it’s there every time you open the app. The litter box itself is great, just very disappointed in the terrible quality of the app.

Update

The recent update knocked the box offline. It’s been a pain to get it connected. One hour later and no luck. Also, you require my location now?

Updates not good

Half of the app is still in Chinese despite selecting English as my language. The recent update seems to have messed things up. Coincidently my sensors started getting wonky same time the app updated. And now it seems some of the info on the app is missing, or maybe it’s just on Chinese now..not sure. App is still usable but definitely needs some work.

Poor design and scaling

Really poorly designed app. It has that magnified/ poor scaling look on an iPhone 17 Pro Max - a bit like the app was designed for an iPhone 5 and then renders up to a bigger screen without using the real estate properly. Unfortunately that means that some menu items can’t even be read fully as they go off screen. Overall not very intuitive and there’s also a few poor translation issues - but you can just about make out what’s what. Please remake or redesign this app. Your machines are good but the app is trash.

Used to Work

This last update jacked up everything on our Catlink, it stopped recording visits from my cat and doesn’t auto clean after he visits. Junk.

Ew

The app won’t work anymore with the last update, stopped connecting to WiFi and even deleted and redownloaded the app, went through all the troubleshooting.

My Scooper SE Stopped Connecting

Ever since the app updated like half a year ago, my litter box can’t connect to the app which makes the litter box useless since I have no idea when to replace the bag, I have to do it manually every time. This needs to be fixed especially if you are out of the house and want to know how your litter box is doing.

New version broke soft stool burial

So I was on V4.1.5, the version indicates V4.1.6 but in my app it says V4.1.7. Now the soft stool burial option is broken. Says device not found. Please fix!

Not recording video

Not recording videos and the photo saved didn’t even include the cat in it so i can’t verify which cat actually used it.

Constant Error Messages

Nice litter box, completely useless app. Half of the functions on the app are unusable. I consistently get “server error” messages when trying to change any settings in the app. I’ve tried deleting the app, signing in/out/ resetting my phone, etc. Nothing fixes the issue.

Nothing Works

I don’t know what was done, but now I cannot connect to the litter box and it won’t empty. Complete waste of $800.

This app has a lot of connection issues

It always fails when I try to switch to other modes, which is really annoying. 烦!

Working but not good

My biggest problem is that I can’t set it to display metric units. It only displays one time a metric weight, when saving a Cat and setting the weight. But the logs are all in lb.

Not as bad as other reviews suggest

Most of the negative reviews had to do with connecting to WiFi, see the last few paragraphs for tips on that.

In my experience setting up and using this app for the CatLink Open-X litter box (have not had experience with their other products), I found it to be intuitive, and functional. It logs usage activity — helpful for monitoring your cat’s health — and sends notifications for cycles, errors, and waste‑bin reminders. You can also:

* Check real‑time status
* Trigger a cleaning cycle remotely
* Adjust cleaning delay
* Switch between manual and automatic modes
* Change weight units
* Rename the device
* View usage statistics
* Perform Firmware Updates

Additional settings include Kitten Protection Mode, manual‑only mode for acclimating cats, and a “soft stool burial” option that covers softer waste in litter before cycling to prevent smearing. The app also has easy to access video tutorials under "Device Settings" as well as full detailed user manual within "User Help".

I did notice a few leftover Chinese characters when deleting activity log entries, but the confirmation prompts revert to English. This and other minor grammar and translation issues that don’t affect functionality will likely be patched in a future update. Cleaning the language barrier issues earns it a 5 out of 5!

~ Now for what many seem to have an issue with ~ Setting up the Open‑X in the CatLink app and connecting it to Wi‑Fi was straightforward for me — not quite as effortless as assembling the unit, but far from difficult. I did notice that the CatLink app has some low ratings in the Apple App Store, mostly tied to connectivity issues. With that in mind, here are two tips that made my setup smoother:
1. Avoid special characters in your Wi‑Fi name (SSID). The manual mentions this, and while my network did include a dash (“‑”) without causing problems, more complex characters may interfere.
2. Temporarily disable Access Control on your router.
This was the key for me. Simply setting the router to “allow new devices” wasn’t enough — I had to fully disable Access Control during setup. Once connected and updated, I re‑enabled it with no issues. This isn’t unique to CatLink; I’ve seen the same behavior with with other devices such as robot vacuums.

So before blaming the app or the litter box, double‑check your router’s security settings — I’ve learned that lesson the hard way.
