This app is extremely frustrating and unreliable. For something that is supposed to help parents track their children’s school buses, the ETA is rarely accurate, and half the time the app won’t even open when you need it.
Parents rely on bus tracking for their children’s safety and to know when to have them at the bus stop. An app used for something this important needs to be dependable. I honestly don’t understand why the county approved a system that is this inconsistent.
PGCPS says Chipmunk is supposed to provide real-time bus locations and accurate ETA information, but that has not been my experience at all. The app needs major improvements in reliability, loading, GPS tracking, and ETA accuracy.
At this point, it creates more frustration and uncertainty than reassurance. I would not recommend Chipmunk as a reliable way to track a child’s school bus.

Unreliable and Stressful for Families. Absolutely the worst
The Chipmunk app is supposed to give parents accurate bus locations, estimated arrival times, and timely notifications. Unfortunately, our experience has been the exact opposite.
We have received conflicting pickup times through the app, emails, and our child’s profile—sometimes multiple different times within just a few hours. The bus icon has disappeared, replacement buses have not displayed correctly, route changes have failed to update, and estimated arrival times have been completely inaccurate. On some days, the bus arrived much earlier than shown, causing children to miss it. On others, students waited outside in the Florida heat for a bus that arrived extremely late or missed the stop entirely.
These are not minor technical inconveniences. Parents depend on this information to keep their children safe, get them to school on time, and manage work and family responsibilities. An unreliable school bus application creates confusion, anxiety, missed buses, late arrivals, and unnecessary stress for children and parents.
A student transportation app must provide accurate, consistent, and dependable information. Until BusPlanner fixes its tracking, notifications, route synchronization, and arrival-time accuracy, I cannot recommend Chipmunk to any school district or family.

The worst
This is by far one of the worst apps for tracking a student. The biggest problem is that the location often doesn’t show at all, which completely defeats the purpose of having a tracking app.
For parents who depend on this app to know where their child is, especially during transportation to and from school, this is extremely frustrating and concerning.
A student tracking app should provide reliable, real-time location information. If the location doesn’t appear, the app is simply not doing what it is supposed to do. Major improvements are needed.

Worst Bus App Ever
Constant issues logging in to my account. Sent feedback and no one responds. School district doesn’t help resolve issues. Garbage

This is the worse app to ever be used for bus tracking, never works and now says my child doesn’t even have transportation
Garbage!!
I just got this app. Signed in once. Now trying to sign in for 3 days and every day it says “too many log in attempts”. Literally only attempted once the 2nd time and that’s the error it gave and still gives. Just dumb. Trash!
Useless
App is useless if it doesn’t work when the buses are running
New year same problems
Year 2 of our school district using this and surprise surprise, it still has the same problems as last year. Day 1 of school and it won’t open. Crashes at loading screen.
Wish I could give negative stars
By far, this is the worst app I have ever used. If your school district chooses it, they are just trying to save money. It is so much more headache than it’s worth. It regularly is down, doesn’t show correct information and now, a new low, sends out notifications that the bus is coming way early. You think your kid missed the bus, only to call transportation and find out that the information that the app sent out was completely wrong. What is even the point of having an app to track the bus at this point?

Not great, tried using August 2025. Never worked well. Hopefully they improve the app, it’s a nice idea in theory.

Knowing that you can have eyes on your baby while they are in route to school and have made it safely is a blessing. I just wish that it was on the afternoon bus as well. But both bus drivers AM-161 & PM-153 are very pleasant and prompt. Thank you all!
Can’t even create an account or log in
I wish I could attach a screenshot but it has been saying “The server is down- please try again later”
Inconsistent
App features does not often work, only maps that give a estimate which when needed no notification for sub route drivers.
Tracking
I love the app when it works , the biggest issue is tracking , I NEED to be able to see when my children’s busses are coming so we aren’t standing out in messy or too hot weather for too long .
