Love app - but major problems with this update

We use this app every single day and love all the functionality, but the update that occurred 7/6 is causing all times to be out of order, cannot delete event, and freezing/shutting down of regular Choiceworks app

Response from developer

Both apps you wrote about have been rebuilt since this review. Update Choiceworks to 18.2 and Choiceworks Calendar to 10.2 and you will be on the strongest versions we have ever shipped: the crashes are fixed, backup and sync are in, and both apps have had months of stability work. Try them. I think you will be happy. If anything still falls short, email me directly at info@beevisual.com and I will handle it personally. And if the new versions earn it, please revisit this review. The star you leave decides whether other families find us. Michele, Bee Visual

Nice effort

Used this app for some time and it was helpful. Definitely limited in some ways that were inconvenient but this was good enough. Recently the app stopped function as it should. Tasks don't slide over to finished. And then my calendar date says today is almost a month ago. Having lost all our photos and stuff sucked when I reinstalled the app. Made me look closer at your images. Why Christian and Jewish holidays but no Ramadan or Eids?
Oh, well, even after reinstall now the task doesn't do anything besides repeat the sound. So I guess we need to find a new calendar for my daughter. We had big trauma recently and she could really benefit from the calendar working... wish it did. I saw a review from 12 years ago! Incredible run for a small platform like this. Sad to stop using it. Thanks for your help for as long as it lasted

Response from developer

Thank you for this. You took the time to tell me exactly what broke, and that helps more than you know. First, I'm sorry. Tasks not sliding to finished, and the calendar showing the wrong day, that was a real bug, and I hate that it landed while your family was already carrying so much. The newest update fixes the completion problem, so tasks check off and the date stays right again. If you're willing to give it one more try, I'd be grateful, and I think your daughter will feel the difference. I'm also sorry about the photos. Losing your own images on a reinstall is awful, and improving how the app backs up and restores is exactly what I'm focused on now. I'm one mom who built this for my own son, and I still read every word. Whatever you decide, thank you for trusting it with your daughter for as long as you did. The door stays open anytime you want to come back. Michele

No support

This app is fantastic for our non-verbal son who used it every day…until yesterday when version 7.0 rolled out and the app was crippled by bugs. I’ll happily change this rating to 5 stars when the developer either makes actual support available, or rolls back to v6.2 until the bugs are sorted.

Response from developer

Thank you for this, and I am so sorry. Your son loved this app and used it every day, and then an update filled it with bugs and took that away from him. That is the exact thing I never want to happen, and it lands hard, because I built this for my own son. You deserved real support, and I am sorry you could not reach a person. I read every review and I answer the support emails myself. There is a mom on the other end of this, not a company. Here is the honest part: the version that broke things, 7.0, is not the current one anymore. The newest update fixes those bugs and brings back what your son relied on. If you update and give it one more try, I truly think you will feel the difference, and if anything is still off, reach me directly and I will help you myself. Whatever you decide, thank you for trusting it with your son for as long as you did. The door stays open. Michele

So helpful!

💚 I just set this up for my father who has age-related cognitive impairment. I like how you can use your own pictures and your own voice to make it more “adult”. (It would be nice to have a different App Store icon we could choose to make it more adult, though)

I have used this with my own children and students with Autism as well. A very handy and versatile app.
-You can record your voice and add your own pictures to make calendar entries
-Easy viewing- toggle back and forth from day, week or month views. In the ‘Day’ view you can drag items from the ‘To Do’ to ‘Done’ and a green checkmark will appear over the calendar entry to show it has been completed.
-very audible alarm (my hearing-impaired dad can hear it!)
-make one-time or reoccurring calendar events

Needs bigger day font

We love this app but the month/date font size is so small. We’d love to see more options to change this. Also, adding Andy option to select ‘tomorrow’ in addition to the ‘today’ button would be cool.

Response from developer

Thank you, this is a great note, and you are right. We already let images enlarge in ChoiceWorks, and I want to do the same for the month and date type here, only better, an adjustable size families can set as large as they need. Readability is the whole point, so yes, this is coming. A "tomorrow" button next to "today" is a lovely idea too. I really like what it teaches. Two days at a time is exactly how a lot of kids ease into a calendar, so I am looking hard at how to add it simply, without cluttering the screen. I read every review myself, so thank you for taking the time. It genuinely helps me make this better. Michele

Choiceworks Calendar

Choiceworks Calendar

Amazing!

I love this!!! We bought the bundle and it saved our vacation. Roadtripping with 3/4 of us being ND and we all loved something to reference. And it was so simple to add our own pics for things. We could do things like show each specific hotel we’d be staying at next so it was familiar by the time we got there. It cut off so many meltdowns before they got passed the “getting anxious” stage and let the kids enjoy themselves more fully and worry less. It created a kinder and more empathetic introduction to road trips for them and I love that, because they can do anything with the right supports. It’s become an integral part of our infrastructure. And it’s so well thought out!

Has potential

We would like to use this app for our son on his talker, but this app doesn’t support split screen on the iPad. I tried to contact the developer and got no response.

Thank you

I hate paying for apps especially when they usually aren’t great. but every once in a while, you find that app that it is exactly what you needed! I love the simple graphics and the option to print a full size day or week or month. And the option to share the calendar, the option to customize images and captions. I think the thing I like the most is that it’s not complicated! everything you need and nothing you don’t. nobody coerced me to write this review, I just have a child with autism and I am happy to have this tool.

Thank you for this wonderful review! Means so much to us, being a small family company, to hear we are helping!

Good for us

So far, I like this. Allows me to design a custom visual calendar for my kid that will also provide voice prompts so he can listen to what is scheduled. I like that it even has a day count down feature so he can select a visual and the app will count down the number of days before that event happens. I would have liked to see a wider selection of icons/visuals or compatibility with other calendars but overall, I think this will be a big help to our family.

Excellent support

This app is a very useful tool to create visual schedules for young children and older children with autism. I have used my own symbols to create a visual daily schedule for my students. I can also mirror my iPad to the Smartboard so the whole class can see the daily plan. I would love to be able to customise the backgrounds so that activities to be done are green and those completed are red, for finished. I would also like to choose my own font. I love that you can move the completed tasks over to finished and they get a tick. Perhaps we could also choose a smiley face? I would certainly recommend this app. The voices need some improvement though.

Needs more recurring options than weekly

I had contacted support a while ago about the inability to select a biweekly option when setting up a recurring appointment. I asked them to recommend that it be added in a future revision. I see it still hasn’t been added. The calendar isn’t useful to me if I have to either create a new appointment every other week or set up a recurring appointment and then have to remove every other one. I saw another reviewer asking for an annual recurring option and I like that idea, too.

I also noticed there’s not an image for therapy/psychologist/counselor. I think there should be.

Can’t add events

I can’t add events it keeps saying there is no caption although one is typed already

Buggy re: recurring events

I love the Choiceworks app - both professinally as an SLP and personally as a parent - and was hoping to love CW Calendar too. But I’m very frustrated to find that every time I turn on the “recurring event” button when adding an event, the app crashes on me. I am using an iPhone 11 running iOS 15.3.1

Response from developer

Hi Wittywats, Thank you for your review. We understand the isolated issue you are experiencing due to the emails we have exchanged. I want to again state that we apologize for the inconvenience and as of right now, we are unable to replicate or map out the reason why this is occurring on your device. It could be due to lack of storage. we have reviewed our crash logs and it is not evident or common. We always resolve all issues and bugs. Working with the various iOS platforms and user devices, bugs and blips are inevitable, however, we do our best for our customers to avoid these rare functionality obstructions. we do appreciate you reporting it to us. Thank you, Michele.

Almost 5 stars

If only there was an option to create an account to share with the other parent or even with the child’s smart device. I have found myself sharing the pic and creating the same schedule on different devices.

Response from developer

Hi Lili529, There is!! You can share an entire calendar with another parent or device. Please see user guides at bee visual.com to learn how. You can also email info@beevisual.com

Crashes when you click Repeat Event

The whole app crashes when you click “repeat event”. We can’t use this app and tried reinstalling. Waste of $15.

Reliable, helpful for anxious kids

This app has been my go-to for years. I recommend it to families of kids with special needs and use it with my own kids too. App reviews were recently reset, so they don't reflect how great this tool really is (yet!)

Ausome app

Hello I am an Autistic adult with comorbidities, I am a visual person and find this app very useful. One suggestion though, is the ability to edit/delete the symbols already on the app, not just the ones I add..if this happens I will give 5 stars.

Thank you

Best App

Use this for Daughter with special needs every day so has a visual diary
She loves the count down to how long before an event

Great

Love it, my daughter with autism checks it every morning to check and helps reduce meltdowns when she knows what to expect.
