This is not *the* cold turkey app
Maybe this one is good I have no idea, but others should recognize that this one in the App Store isn’t the original.
Response from developer
Thanks for your feedback. We’re not affiliated with any other app you may be referring to. “Cold turkey” is a general term for quitting a habit immediately, which is exactly what our app is designed to support. The questions you mention are part of building a personalized plan, including estimating a quit timeline based on your inputs. We understand this can feel unusual, but it’s meant to guide—not guarantee—your progress. We’ll also fix the spelling issue you pointed out. If you’re open to it, we’d encourage you to try the app before judging—it’s built to genuinely help people quit habits and build better routines.
Why do I need to pay?
Response from developer
Thanks for your feedback. This isn’t a free app, and that’s intentional. We require a subscription because we’ve found that putting real commitment behind the decision significantly increases the chances of actually quitting. The goal isn’t just to provide information—it’s to help people follow through and stay consistent, which is why the full program is behind a paywall. We understand that won’t be for everyone, but for many users, having skin in the game makes a real difference.
Do not pay for this
Response from developer
Sorry about the experience — the app definitely shouldn’t be freezing. We recently released version 2.0 with stability improvements, so updating may resolve the issue. Since purchases on iOS are handled by Apple, refund requests can be submitted through your Apple purchase history.
Not Free
Response from developer
Sorry for the confusion. The onboarding helps tailor the app to your goals, and the subscription supports the tools and ongoing development behind the app. We appreciate the feedback and will work on making the pricing clearer earlier in the experience.
Great app if you don’t expect the world from it
I absolutely love that this app basically doesn’t care if you do or don’t check in. Sure, it keeps track of stats and such, but I’ve never been bugged, pressured, or judged if I miss a check-in. It’s just picks up from there and lets you keep rolling on.
The journal feature is always available. Again, I’ve never been bugged, pressured, or judged if I don’t journal, but the option to journal is always there if I need it or want it. It’s really helped to write down my thoughts at different times.
Turkey is my favorite. He (or she) reflects the stage I’m in on my journey. During my longest streak, Turkey went from being drug out and run down to happy and reading a book instead of the negative habits that marked the beginning of my journey. The illustrations of Turkey act as a mirror to my own behavior and a window into how my behavior affects myself and others. I love seeing Turkey on my Home Screen and on the app.
Lastly, it’s informed, but not clinical! Language typically considered crass is not a taboo here, it’s just normal. And being able to use common vernacular in circumstances has helped normalize or weaken the taboo of my behavior, which has helped me face it head on.
I use this app in conjunction with community, personal connection, exercise, the support of my wife, and Brainbuddy, on top of about 8 years of on-and-off recovery work. The simplicity of using Cold Turkey and Brainbuddy for daily check-ins and brain rewiring has made my latest attempt a recovery and sobriety more successful than ever.
This app won’t kure your addiction, but it is a great asset to add to a recovery framework. I pay for both this app and Brainbuddy, and using them simultaneously in combination with my existing framework has been ridiculously helpful. Hope you all love it, too.
Just a timer app, don’t pay
It preys on people’s vulnerabilities, and the creator should be ashamed for charging such a high price with a dishonest app description and payment setup.
