Riddled with bugs

An unbelievable number of bugs in this app; Iโ€™m confident they went straight to release after coding, anyone that plays a full game and has eye will spot them.
Otherwise an ok recreation of the original board game, some of the controls could be improved to make it even better.

Great game

This is one of the best games out there. It is the only game I could find on the World War I. I hope they expand and add armor and air units.

Awkward interface but good game.

Iโ€™m a veteran/fan of both Memoir 44 and Battlelore, so am quite familiar with the C&C system. Even so, expect to muddle around the first few playthroughs as the interface is unintuitive and there is no tutorial.

The interface is suboptimal with very small font not the cards, no easy reference for units/terrain, and slow animations between moves which canโ€™t be turned off.

That being said, this is a faithful reproduction of the board game, which is well designed.

Very Good

Great game worth getting , challenging and thoughtful you must think or you won't win, takes a interesting while to pick up all the play, manual is very good and a nesissary read, recommend good buy

Enjoyable game

So far I'm enjoying this quite a bit. Takes a bit to get used to some of the nuances of how the game works in the app itself. Certain,y it's ripe for expansions to include more scenarios and weapons.

Nice work Hexwar

Edit April 29th - new patches still coming out making the game even better. Fellow Fans - please get out to IOS game review sites and support the game vs shallow reviews. Let's keep it alive and viable for the Tanks expansion !

Some bugs to iron out as previously noted. But games like this and Arnhem really show the company stepping up to a new level. - Now just create a v2 engine for ancients warfare that uses facing and advanced routing rules and you'll rule the mobile strategy arena. ;)

Great game, needs AI improvements

Credit to the developer for quickly fixing the bugs as they appear. It now seems to work better and it really is an excellent war game.

A few bugs remain. For example, when the AI plays Butts and Bayonets, the human player sometimes gets the chance to advance after that card, strangely.

For that perfect rating the AI just needs some simple improvements. It still plays cards that just don't work in the situation. E.g. Plays a left side attack card when it has no left side units. I've even see it do this with a combat card such as machine gun barrage. It's competent, and I can't always beat it, but some simple improvements would make for a better experience, especially as there is no online play.

I've had my money's worth out of this app.

Keep up the good work.

Does not even start

Using an iPad Air 2 but the game won't even start. You get a grey screen for a few seconds and then it returns you back to 'desk top'. Unusable and frustrating, especially when you have paid for it. Please fix.

Mr

Waste of money doesn't even work

Buggy

I have yet to finish a game without either an outright crash or some minor glitch.

Too buggy to play

I paid a lot of money (for an app) for this and it was a waste of money, its so full of bugs it's unplayable. Crashes and freezes happen all the time, cards don't do what they say they will.
Very, very disappointed, I feel ripped off.

Needs Work

Love the game series... but this one is pretty buggy to the point where I become rather dissatisfied with the play. Waiting for an update.

Great trench warfare

Loving the trench warfare. Needs an update though. Plenty of varied scenarios to play, and quite challenging.

Crashes and Sticks

I like the concept of this game and it is fun when it works. I do not think I have ever seen a game crash and get stuck more than this game. It happens in every scenario and any number of reasons. Fix it and I will change my rating. For $8 you can have a game that works.

Meh....

The board game is one of the best out there, and if you can muster to find one online
, it's a must buy!

The conversion into digital is not so much fun.

As mentioned in other reviews are there numerous bugs that hamper a possible mega fun gaming experience on screen.

As it is the same with the pic version, a solid support by the developers is close to none existent.

This is clearly just a quick try to make some money back for them.

That said do I still like it in a strange way, but it might be just due to the fact that the board game is so much fun.

I do not have my hopes up for them to patch anything, so stay clear of waisting $8 and try to find the original.

Nothing like WW1

There's been a vacancy for a good World War One operational level game for decades. This isn't it.

Good start-needs more work

The game is excellent! Easy to play and faithful to the board game version. However, a patch is needed ASAP to fix the nonfunctional command cards. Once that is done, this will be a five star game, for sure.

Buggy and unbalanced

Too many issues to recommend this. Some cards don't seem to work and if there is a reason why you are not given it
There is no failsafe against touching athe wrong button to move on when special cards are used
No incentive to attack whatsoever . Best chance of winning is to stay in your trenches / defensive positions and reap the defensive bonuses.
All in all a missed opportunity!!!!!

Awesome port of the board Game!

I'm a big fan of the board game and this is a faithful recreation of that. I'm glad they waited for the kinks to be worked out in the PC version before they ported to the iPad. Feels just like the board game with the added attraction of the animations and the ability to zoom down to trench level. A very immersive game. I definitely recommend it.
