Most task apps give you two states: not done, and done. That is not how work actually ends. A great deal of it is neither finished nor forgotten — it just sits, for months, being neither. Cusp gives work four lanes, and the fourth is the point. CUSP — named, not started. Everything begins here. DOING — you have actually picked it up. DONE — finished. RELEASED — deliberately let go. Not failed, not deleted: decided. RELEASING IS AN ACTION, NOT A DELETE The thread stays, with the date you let it go. No badge, no streak, no notification pressure. Just the number, once, so that starting it or releasing it is a decision you make rather than one that makes itself. YOUR WORK IN PLAIN FILES Choose a local or iCloud folder in Files that Cusp can read and write to. After restarting Cusp, choose the folder again to renew access. Cusp mirrors every thread there as a plain Markdown file, and every state change as one append-only .jsonl file per day. You can read it with anything, search it with anything.
