About

Moving to Japan means residence cards, city hall, health insurance, a bank account, a phone contract and a pension enrolment — most of it on a deadline, most of it in Japanese, and none of it explained in one place. Daruma turns that into a plan. Daruma is written in English, for people moving to Japan from anywhere. BUILT AROUND YOUR SITUATION Answer a few questions about your visa, your nationality, your destination city and when you land. Daruma generates a task list for your actual circumstances rather than a generic checklist — someone arriving on a work visa with a job lined up sees something different from someone moving wards three years in. KNOW WHAT IS DUE, AND WHEN Move-in registration has a 14-day deadline. Your residence card has rules. Daruma tracks what is time-sensitive, what is a legal requirement, and what can wait — and can add the deadlines that matter to your calendar. ASK ANYTHING The AI Coach answers questions about visas, city hall procedures, housing and daily life in plain English, with the context of where you are in your move. Speak or type. A VAULT FOR YOUR DOCUMENTS Keep your residence card, visa paperwork and contracts in one encrypted place so you are not searching your camera roll at a service counter. Scan a document and Daruma can pull out the details that matter. SURVIVAL JAPANESE, WHEN YOU NEED IT Each errand comes with the phrases for that specific counter — city hall, health insurance, the pension office — in Japanese, romaji and English. SEE WHERE YOU STAND Periodic check-ups score your readiness across visa, language, skills, assets and momentum, and show you what to work on next. WHO IT IS FOR People planning a move to Japan, people in their first year, and people already settled who are facing a visa renewal, a ward change or a job change. — Daruma is an organisational tool, not legal or immigration advice. Rules change and are applied differently by different municipalities. Always confirm anything consequential with your city or ward office, the Immigration Services Agency, or a qualified professional. What's New in Daruma

1.1.0

September 9, 2026

Two ways to subscribe Daruma now comes in two tiers. Essential gives you the full statutory checklist, the document vault and 10 document scans. Pro adds the AI coach and 25 scans a month. Moving house inside Japan A dated checklist for a domestic move — 転出届 and 転入届, utilities, address changes — built backwards from the day you're moving, including the 14-day residence card deadline. Residence card renewal Daruma now warns you about the gap between applying for a renewal and the new card arriving, so you don't book a trip into it. Badges worth collecting Forty hand-drawn badges replace the old emoji, including eight you find rather than work towards, and a Japaniversary for the day your arrival comes round again. Five themes Pick the look you want from the Profile tab. Wabi-Sabi is the new default. Smaller things • Choose from all 47 prefectures during setup instead of six cities • A shorter setup flow that holds up at large text sizes and with VoiceOver • Your monthly AI allowance is now shown on the Profile tab • Fixed: the home screen counted your days in Japan from your signup date if you hadn't set an arrival date
