Not the real bikeshare, freezes phone

You can’t use this to actually rent the bike, and the app freezes and closes in about 60 seconds. This is fun in theory, but it’s not the real app. I’m not sure why Apple would let this app rank higher in a search over the apps that people actually need and use.

NOT the official DC bikeshare app

Wish I'd looked more closely before paying (99 cents) for ad-free. Thought a review could help others avoid the error.

Awesome streamlined interface

Dc Bikes really makes finding the few closest docks super easy… especially when using one handed on a bike.

Very poor

Difficult to zoom and move map
Adds at bottom of screen cover the buttons you need to use the app!!!!

Basic and Effective

It does exactly what it's supposed to. It indicates the location of bike stands around DC, as well as the number of available bikes at each stand. Pretty simple and direct.

Works well

Easy to use & good functionality

Location services always on

App accomplishes the bare minimum of what it needs to do, but absolutely should not require location services to be on at all times.

Ads make it impossible to use

The location of the banner ads make it impossible to view the number of bikes available in the map mode. This makes the app unusable. You have to make an in-app purchase to banish the advertisements. Do not waste your time.

Outdated but works

Apple now warns me when I open this old app that it might slow down my phone

No regard for privacy!!!

Do NOT download this app. It requires that you give it access to your location ALWAYS, even when not using the app.

Great gateway for a novice wanting to explore bike riding

Sure it's not perfect, but once you get by ones need for perfection, it is indeed amazing! I am hoping to become a bike rider and Capital Bile has provided such an opportunity. Thanks!

Location Allowed All the Time?

There's absolutely no reason to permanently have location on - add an "Only when this app is open". This app would be a clean 5 stars otherwise.

Super helpful app

Saves me during the morning rush when I'm scrambling for a dock downtown. Very useful app.

Unnecessary permissions and bad advertising

The app requires you to always share your location which is unnecessary and means they are selling your location data. Additionally, the advertisements cover up key things like number of bikes and available spots making the app useless.

Functionality issues

Works ok at best, often takes an exceedingly long time (1-2 mins or more) to load in info after enabling location services. Also usually has major issues when trying to swipe for other nearby stations- sometimes works, usually
doesn't. Overall poor.

Only works if you allow it track location at all times

Such a data waste!

Functional, but corners were cut to make it work

It does what it advertises. It will get you to the closest bike share rack. That being said there are a few problems.

1. "Use current location". The application only allows you to set "use current location" to 'always' and 'never'. If you do not go into your settings when not using the app it will drain your battery unnecessarily. The app should be updated to allow 'only when using the application'. If battery life is a concern for you I would avoid this app until this bug has been fixed.

2. I am always prompted to "install google apps" although I have it installed and integrated with other apps. From what I can tell this bug is more of a cosmetic annoyance than a functional impedance.

Excellent

Very easy to find a station based on current location

Fantastic.!

Clean interface, easy to use, everything you need in one place while biking around DC.

Very disappointed

This app REQUIRES you to allow them to access your location WHEN THE APP IS TURNED OFF or else they won't let you use the app at all. There is NO reason they need my location, especially when I am not even using the app. For that matter, I shouldn't have to authorize location services at all; I am perfectly capable of manually looking at the map and figuring out where I am. Big brother is watching.
