Useless
Well that was an hour I won’t get back. Everything said it was Ok but then the end result was a fail. The retry failed so now it’s a manual submission at extra cost because the App is useless. I feel cheated to have to pay more because the App is rubbish.

Be careful with this company. After spending nearly an hour completing the online forms and using this app to scan my ID, the verification process failed.
I contacted customer support and requested a refund, but they refused to refund the full mount, keeping a £20 administration charge. I don’t understand what this charge covered, as my DBS application could not be completed and I did made all the effort.
As a result, I have no DBS check and I’m £20 out of pocket. Very disappointing.

Shocking. Not fit for purpose

Appalling app. It’s 2026 and it’s terrible. Functionally poor. Quality poor. Everything about it is awful
Horrendous
All I want to do is try and get an enhanced DBS check & this is honestly causing me so much stress. Twice now it’s failed & it’s so infuriating. I don’t know why they can’t just take your info via email. Really regret going with this company, they also charge you a fee for their service. Just appalling

Terrible app, doesn’t work!
Avoid at all costs
This is one of the worst apps I have EVER come across. Why Step by Step decided to use them, I do not know. It will only let you scan the QR code once (which is found online once you’ve registered - this is not made clear to you) and doesn’t accept your face scan once you’ve scanned your passport, meaning you have to send your documents off via special post. An absolute waste of time.

Absolutely terrible app, avoid if possible. Not convinced on the security of this company, app is completely faulty on each step, god help in you’re logged in you will never be able to log out if if you delete the app and redownload to try again. It says completed steps, then your left unable to submit anything, while the company reminds you to submit your form. Terrible app, even worst website and tech support. If a company provides such a poor system, it raises questions on the quality of the security with your personal documents.

Photo ID doesn’t work

I spent ages trying to get the app to work. I finally got all the way through only to have it tell me that the attempt had failed and I would have to submit my ID through the post. It’s absolutely useless.

Digital process failed
Did everything the app asked, everything said confirmed etc then the digital process failed with no option to reattempt or explanation for what failed.
Works just fine
Went through the process on the DDC website which will provide you with an on screen QR code once you have submitted your info. At that point you can use the app, which worked very well for me.

Absolutely useless- can’t scan any document using this app. Completely pointless

Very poor app for such an important task. Using latest iPhone 16 and it still froze and took several attempts

This app is not fit for purpose. The scanning doesn’t work, and gives no guidance as to why. After several attempts, the account locks you out. Worth £70?
Doesn’t work
Er. Crashes on first run. On second run after scanning the QR code it says ‘token already deactivated.’ No help no error code, so no way of resetting anything And I can’t go any further. Pretty pointless app.
