Interesting but also Frustrating

This game features a wide range of interactions and buyable units, which create hundreds of different team comps to try and experiment with. Unfortunately, a rigid “Star” system when completing levels and a broken economy holds this game back.

When completing a level, you’re given 1-3 stars depending on how much damage your base took by the end of the level. The best result, and the one that gives the most rewards, is locked behind beating the level with 100% base health. This gives a player 2 choices: constantly retry the level to finally get a winning strategy, or use a team composition with at least 2 “mechanics” that auto heal the base when sending them out. Unless you like retrying the same level 5+ times (and with the energy system this game has, you have a max of 10 tries before having to wait 30+ minutes), you’ll always try to use mechanics. This significantly stifles experimenting with team load outs because you’ll always be using mechanics for 3 stars.

As for the economy, the main currency, the gold coins, are mostly obtained when beating a level or farmed with a supply run. Watching ads after beating a level is almost mandatory for a speedy progression because they can turn a 50 coin reward into 330 coins. Progression continues to slow down as new units have costs in the tens of thousands while coin gain stays at 200 to 300 per level (WITH ads). However, all of this is alleviated if you buy a premium unit with another in-game currency known as cash. You can farm up the amount required to buy the unit for free in a relatively short time frame, but the unit’s purchase is almost mandatory for a reasonable progression, since upgrading your base and units also cost gold coins. This creates a situation that disproportionately harms new players for using cash in ways that aren’t perfectly optimal.
