Dead Reckoning Navigation

This is a great app for the military, scouts, and geologists. U.S.Army FM 3-25.26 Section 12-5. DEAD RECKONING NAVIGATION Dead reckoning is moving a set distance along a set line. Generally, it involves moving so many meters along a set line, usually an azimuth in degrees. Dead Reckoning is taught in basic land navigation instruction so that Boy Scouts and military students can learn how to read a map, how to use a compass and how to calculate the declination angle on any map.

 A WORD ON DECLINATION ANGLES:
As currently programmed this app points to true north. This is because the Apple Mapkit is based on true north. The App works perfectly if you use the map to tap your destination. IF you manually input your direction, you must input the true north (map angle) and not the angle that accounts for the magnetic north declination angle.

 Every point on the earth has a declination angle (you can find it on topographic maps). This angle is the difference between magnetic and true north for the location you are at. The angle varies depending upon you location. A normal compass will alway point to the magnetic north. Maps are made considering true north. Generally to navigate using a map and compass you must convert your direction of travel determined on a map by considering the declination angle at your location before navigating on the azimuth using a compass.
