Great idea, borderline unusable

I really want this app to be good but the most important function, directions that avoid Flock cameras simply is unusable. Enter your destination and it automatically tries to start you off from the destination. What? When/if you can finally get it to map a route, there are no turn by turn directions, and the map does not follow you consistently or accurately. On top of that, no car play. I would pay for this app if it worked, it’s. Literally only useful for seeing what cameras are near where you are standing.

Response from developer

Yeah navigation was not our primary focus; I've been directing people to FlockHopper or DriversAgainstFlock for that. DeFlock's app's main purpose is to make it easy to edit and submit map data. We have basic instructions at deflock.org/app

Notifications

Under advanced settings it says notifications are disabled but they are turned on in the app settings and always use location is checked.
Uninstalled and reinstalled - does not resolve.

Login Troubles

I love the purpose of the app, and there are 3 flock cameras in my city that I want to add to the map. Unfortunately, every time I try to log in through the app nothing happens. It pulls up a white screen and no amount of reloading will fix it. I really want to contribute to the map but I can’t at the moment.

That's odd - are you using a VPN or anything? Can you load OpenStreetMap.org in a browser normally? Shoot us an email if you continue having trouble - happy to take a look.

Notifications not working

This is generally a nice app, but the notifications do not appear to work, at least with the most current version of iOS. Even though I have enabled notifications for this app, the toggle in the advanced setting says that notifications are disabled. Also, the dialogue indicates that notifications will still appear when the app is running, although they will not appear when the app is running in the background. This does not work either. My main interest in using this app is to be informed when I am approaching a camera, so I hope this is resolved quickly. By the way, I am using the latest version of this app.

Possible Optimization?

There is a location I frequent. However in order to avoid flock cameras the amount of miles goes from around 10 to 30 miles just to avoid cameras. But, it’s possible that I have false hope, but it looked like for my specific location, it wasn’t well-optimized, as in the amount of distance could’ve been shortened without interacting with a Flock Camera. If there is a way to resolve this. I’d be very grateful. Regardless, THANK YOU to whoever created this app.

Check out the FlockHopper app - friends of ours who are doing a much better job with the navigation stuff.

DeFlock America

This app is extremely accurate and helpful to see the violation of our rights to privacy. All the locations are on point and you can navigate through your city to try to avoid any cameras in your area! Stay safe and DeFlock America!

Thank you

Thank you for giving people a visual representation of this unconstitutional national mass surveillance network

Apps like this are integral

This app is integral to our safety and security, I appreciate the fact that you can report them in order to get them listed on this map making a real difference, if I remember correctly a town banned the construction of flock cameras, after they left the cameras up anyways and in response the city put bags around them. This app will help us in the event of another town banning them and the same events repeat themselves. Keep yourself informed and be sure to do your part and spread awareness. Many people I talk to don’t even know what flock is and that alone is concerning to me. Talk to your neighbors and family in order to spread the status quo

Nostalgic freedom

This app helps bring back the nostalgic freedom we all remember from our childhood. Let’s give our children the same opportunity to live in a free society.

Only app I update

Best app ever - I’m able to avoid all the cams on my ride to work now. Simple app layout and works perfect.

flock

guess I am a anti tech terrorist by having this

A must have app

This App is an essential tool for anyone concerned with their civil liberties and their constitutional rights. Keep up the amazing work.

Great app

Americans need to stand up for what is right. If the government doesn’t like it, then it’s probably right

Please add CarPlay compatibility.

Great app and just need CarPlay compatibility.

Spread awareness, flock is not on your side!

Great app, thank you.

Amazing App

You always wonder how much you're being tracked, even in the middle of nowhere. This app showed me exactly how much I am being tracked and it's shocking.

Hello developers you guys are awesome sauce

Hi so I wanted to inquiry a suggestion to make it accessible for us to add photos rather than just gps location we should have useful data like how high the camera is, model, a removed icon(if needed), comments under post an update reminder aswell to encourage consistency, you should also expand on the publication of manifested malware like adding a forum where people may discuss similar topics outside today’s media outlets like Reddit & tiktok I truly believe this can be an oasis of sorts scratch that a training ground

Option to add photos is on the wishlist :) So are update reminders! (actually in the form of OSM's "check_date" tag.) Height info could be added with this: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:height. Come join us on Discord! Post in the #mobile-app channel and I'll find you.

Good BUT

I find the intention behind it great, especially behind that AI spyware, but I do find it quite silly that you need to sign into some random app/have an account there to report where you’ve seen cameras, it should be readily accessible

Response from developer

That's an understandable feeling. DeFlock chose not to run our own database and to instead rely on the proven system OpenStreetMap (OSM) have built to avoid all the problems they've solved over the past 20 years. The OSM account requirement is only for submitting data; they had to do that to combat bots and spam and vandalism. Tragedy of the commons, basically. For what it's worth, this app is fully open source so you can audit exactly what it does (and does not) do :)

After trying to report for more than 2 weeks

I am deleting this app as generally useless. Whatever the trick is to actually getting a camera reported, I haven’t figured it out and am over trying. The reasoning for the app is excellent. The utility of its use is not so much. Best luck improving.
