No longer works
Scam
The prices of the Power Pack (2013 — $5.99), Grammar & Tips (2014 — $1.99), and Expert English (2014 — $2.99) upgrades were almost unheard of at the time; even if they seem somewhat reasonable today. Back then, each of those upgrades individually cost what a fully paid app cost. And let’s be clear, $10.97 back then is $15.58 today. That’s still a hell of a lot for an English language electronic dictionary. And they just discontinued all those features after pocketing the money without a care in the world. And it’s not just the developer, Apple also allowed it and did nothing. We need a crackdown on app store and developer bait and switch scams. Enough is enough.

By the way xAI is way better.

They Took Back What Was Paid For
I had the paid, as-free version of this app for years. It used to allow you to download the dictionary database for offline use - something I found invaluable. You also used to be able to favorite and save words, and the developers in their very questionable “wisdom” removed that as well. Basically leaving an ad-ridden shell of the app I previously considered one of the most valuable apps on my devices. I want my money back at the very least, but they won’t even be doing that, you can be sure. I don’t know of the company changed hands, or what, but whoever is currently developing this app is greedy AF, even being willing to steal from their paying customers. Don’t bother with this joke of an app. It is nothing compared to what it once was. Don’t bother with this company, because they are greedy and dishonest. The fact they were able to do this and remain on the App Store is in itself an insult to every honest user/customer. What they’ve done is evil perpetrated by absolute filth.
Twinkle, twinkle, ... lost three stars ... tell me if they really are...
Definitely already headed straight towards: A good and solid app.
A few - cumbersome and unwieldy tending towards "more than annoying" - quirks to usability keep me from giving 4-5 stars:
1) returning results as one endless page ... why not collapsed?
2) "American Phonetic" + "IPA" - nice! - Why can't you simply display both side-by-side instead of a (unnecessary and obstructive) toggle ?
3) Why can't multiple queries be held accessible for rapid switching between terms? Why is there no history or effective bookmarking?
...
A true highlight were adding crossreferencing to thesaurus and establishing rapid switching between these for language and word-smithing purposes.

bad July 29 update
i paid for no ads awhile back
Hey, this works, but…
I would give it 5 stars for it to just work as it is supposed to work: like searching a dictionary book on this app. By itself.
Does one have to watch an ad just to open a physical book dictionary?
Well, maybe this will actually happen someday, who knows? (let's find out 👀)
