Possibly a great app but difficult for swing rhythms
However, there is one maddening thing. When I set the 8th note swing to 100% on a 4/4 meter, it does not produce the proper swing effect of a 12/8 meter. In the long-short pattern of a beat, the long note is slightly shorter than two thirds of the beat and the short note is slightly longer one third. I have tried resolving this by using a 6/8 time meter instead. This produces the swing effect, but the metronomeโs BPM still only measures quarter notes. I cannot find a way to make it measure the triplets. This makes the app not ideal for slower swing rhythms especially when synching with some AUV3 hosts. Will give 5 stars if the developers can offer a solution to this.
Too many defects
The delay and the reverb, neither work at all. The flanger is okay, but there is no adjusting the timing, only the saturation. For creating beats and arranging them, itโs very difficult. This day and age, applications should be self-explanatory. This one is isnโt. Just when you think you have it figured you, you realize you screwed it all up
And the beats i cannot get them to save despite receiving the confirmation that it was saved. I go to open it, and nothing
Yeah, this application is highly overrated. I warned you all
Not yet complete
I am disappointed that an app which could be the most useful for live drumkits is stuck 20 years behind this basic playability, because if you like more realism, for example with modern breakbeat, you canโt find anything in the app-store. โCut itselfโ would bring this app to a whole new level.
A) Should we really return to hardware sequencers, if we love sliced drumbreaks?
B) Or should we wait until apps that can do it already like samplist or koala are fully compatible with DAWs?
I would give it four stars if it would be updated in version 2, even though i would like to get a refund and wouldnโt update. But if it would be added also in this version, i would give it five stars and update to version 2.
Disappointed
I wrote this review but no response and still the song mode does not function properly so canโt really use it be great to have this fixed thanks !
Response from developer
Thanks for the positive review. I wasn't aware of any issues with the empty patterns but I will take a look and get it sorted if I find a problem no worries.
Great value
Really enjoying making layered instruments from found sound recordings and when paired with Velocity Pad i can have dynamics that rival an acoustic instrument in my pocket.
Just one little weird problem maybe you can help me understand. When loaded as an audio unit and connected to a roli lightpad the samples trigger in reverse. I have tried 3 auv3 hosts and used every midi filter in AUM to no avail. I tried another Bluetooth midi controller and it was normal
Also if i run the app in stand-alone mode the problem is gone. Thx for reading

Brilliant App
- it was possible to switch patterns via Midi Program Change
(like in Digikeys)
- if you could group notes for probability (if Tom1 isnโt played, Tom2 also will not be, for example)
Almost perfect, I have a wish list...
After using it for a while, I canโt help but wish there were a few simple improvements and new features that would make this easily the best drum app on the market...
1. Double click on any parameter to reset to default, whether itโs the mixer, effects controllers, anything. This is becoming standard in apps now, and it really stands out that you canโt do this here. Especially as a lot of the controls are small and itโs fiddly to get them back to their original setting.
2. Add an endlessly randomising function, so that with every loop of the pattern, the selected drums randomise again. This is a game changer for me, and would create endlessly humanising and moving elements to a pattern. Just one little button could change this app into something extremely powerful (Patterning and Playbeat have this function)
3. Add chorus send for individual instruments (like youโve done with reverb and delay send)
4. EQ per instrument would be amazing!
5. Sample splicing and assign, so that you can take a drum loop sample, break it up and assign to pads without having to do each sample individually from scratch each time.
6. Add a fill button, and assign a pattern. So you hit that button, it plays the fill and immediately returns to the last pattern again.
7. Pattern switch sync mode. So that when you change patterns, it waits until the end of the pattern before switching. At the moment, it interrupts the current pattern causing messy changes. This is more of a performance mode, but still - fantastic to have.
8. Song record mode. Allows you to record manual pattern changes and build up a song that way... much more of a performance based way of creating a song, rather than programming.
A lot of these I can do with the help of other apps, leaving Digistix to handle the guts of a drum pattern. But with these features, I think Digistix could do it all.
Lots of new ideas there from a fan of this app!
Thanks
Best drum machine app on iOS
The only thing that would make it better is if I could switch to controlling different drums on different midi channels, just linked to an incoming note or chord as a trigger.
That way I can play rhythm patterns live from the bass side of my accordion assigning different drums to single bass notes on one channel and chords on another. Ie if I hit a single bass note on say channel 2 it sounds one drum and if I hit a bass chord on channel 3 it sounds another drum or drums.
There is hardware that will do this but it costs hundreds of pounds and Iโm sure a man of your genius could put a switch in to do this Paul.
Who knows it might even open up a complete new untapped customer base for this most excellent app.
Almost there.
I tend to default to Arturia iSpark for my staple beats with my own tweaked kits, but only because iMPC 1&2 have midi issues in most iOS DAWs, so I canโt help but compare this app to iSpark, which it immediately kills by how fast it loads. I wish it were a little more intuitively streamline - or I wish i had more time to make its UI second nature - either way Iโll have to give it more attention and get over the weird split in the interface. It is nice that the manual is right there at the bottom of the interface, but scrolling through to reach each part of the UI can be a pain in the ass - donโt know why, it just doesnโt always want to scroll down.
Compared to the other sequence arrangers out there, Iโd say 4/5 with definite potential for the full 5 just because of its AU status.
There are crashes that have been consistent and annoying, but Iโm sure like usual thereโs a fix that I havenโt found yet short of reinstalling.
