I am sorry for your perception that there is not a lot of help. We disagree. We do have an extensive Knowledge Base and QuickStart Guide at: https://dotproduct.zohodesk.com/portal/en/kb. In addition we have a a very full YouTube Channel https://youtube.com/@dotproduct3d?si=UkkisFF7FDD3LvEV with many Tutorial videos. We also provide the ability to create support tickets with questions.

Thank you for the nice review. Glad the integration with the FLX100plus is working well for you.
Limited demo, pro version is fantastic
In any case, I was desperate to get a working solution, and Dot3D seemed to be the only app on the market that would do exactly what I needed. So I opted to take the plunge almost a month ago and bought a one-month pro licence.
This software is fantastic!
I need it to survey very large areas (cemeteries, so areas 100m x 100m with many monuments/headstones, footpaths, trees, etc.). Using April Tags and my RTK GNSS receiver, I am able to collect point cloud data covering everything in the cemetery with an error margin of less than an inch (when compared to mapping data in had collected previously using RTK GNSS and a total station).
During data collection, there were a few times when data collection was interrupted eg by a phone call. The app allowed me to recover where I was and continue collecting more data without having to go back and restart from scratch.
Using multiple April Tags is key to getting (internally) accurate data, as these are used to compensate and correct for the iPhone’s IMU sensor drift. Georeferencing those tags with the RTK receiver, and importing those coordinates into Dot3D, allows the user to export a georeferenced point cloud.
Post processing of the data (i.e. the “optimize” button) took about two hours when processing such a large dataset (100x100m area, iPhone 15 Pro Max). I admit I was nervous the app would crash during this (based on my earlier testing of other scanning apps). While my phone was inoperable during processing (as I dared not interrupt it), it worked perfectly. I was then able to export the point cloud, loaded it into my GIS software on my computer, and compared the data to my existing map, and saw it was positioned perfectly.
(It is also possible, and also my intention in future, to simply collect smaller areas, and stitch them together e.g. using Cloud Compare. I just wanted to stress-test the app and phone itself before committing to using it for routine work purposes in future.)
I am really pleased with this app and am happy to integrate it into my workflow for every job i have from now on.
Four requests for the developers if possible, please:
1. Exporting a high-resolution orthophoto to a GeoTIFF file would be great. Another app I tried earlier (3D Scanner App) can do this, but of course they don’t use the April Tags, so it doesn’t have the accuracy of Dot3D. If exporting orthophotos to GeoTIF could be implemented in Dot3D, that would remove any need for me to use a laptop while at my worksite or take the data home to work on it on a desktop computer.
2. It would be nice if scan registration could be done within the app. This would allow the user to collect scans of smaller areas and then stitch them together into one big point cloud.
3. During data optimisation, it would be good if this can continue operating in the background while I use other apps, or even have the phone screen locked. It would also be useful if a message displayed on the screen during optimisation that says this is possible (so users don’t worry about it). I’m not sure if this is even possible given how Apple’s app system works, but it would be great if possible.
4. As I am working on very large sites, it would be handy to be able to collect the data in one small area, then go and collect the data in another area, and so on, until the entire worksite has been scanned. Then it would be great to be able to create a “queue” for scan optimisation, so I could create a list of all Dot3D projects to optimise (could be a dozen or so projects/scans), and then press a button to start and it’ll work through optimising all of those scans. That would allow scan optimisation to be done in batch e.g. at night when I’m asleep. That way everything is ready when I wake up the following day.
Thanks Dot3D devs! This app is great!

Sorry for the confusion! The free trial is indeed free and fully featured. You just need to activate the 7-day trial from within the app to access it. Without activating the free trial first, you were likely just using the app in Free mode, which does still allow scanning/testing, but is indeed very restricted in terms of exports/functionality. I hope this helps clear things up! If you'd like a complimentary fully-featured trial extension, just let us know.
Demo is limited
The things I needed to test are only available in the paid version, not even in the seven day trial, so I have no way of knowing if this app will meet my needs or not, unless I pay almost $80 for a one-month license, which isn’t going to happen.
The developers might want to rethink that as I was seriously interested in buying an ongoing license, but now I’m not.
Great app!
Super easy and intuitive

I am sorry you feel that way. Dot3D is free and you may scan and view what you scan as much as you want in Free mode. Sorry you don’t think that is enough. However Dot3D Pro features are not just another consumer app for playing around with. It is meant for professional users who value accuracy and the ability to use professional workflows. A lot of work has gone into those features and we must charge for those.
