Danger

Attention ne jamais utiliser le logiciel Dot3D sur un ordinateur Windows, très dangereux j’ai perdu quasiment la totalité de mon système Windows.

Jim Carlson Scanning and Mapping

Perfect product for scanning underneath canopy to merge with drone flight lidar and for scanning urban outdoor building facades

オプティマイズド機能が良い

ドリフトの修正に特化していて使いやすいですが、サブスクの価格が少し他のアプリより高いです。

Awesome

It is very easy to use and an awesome tool for creating a 3D scene that you can get accurate measurements.

Best GNSS app for 3D scanning

As a building surveyor, this is the app I’ve been looking for. Glad to see the addition of Emlid support.

Incredible!

Very glad to have finally found a 3D scanning app that actually delivers on its promises. These point clouds are amazing! And the ability to add real world measurements is super helpful. It’s so nice to have full control over the accuracy.

微妙になってきた

日本でならDOT3D PROの価格のままDroggerでのRTKに対応して欲しい。そうでなければ継続はないかなあ。このままならDroggerのmjpegでREALITY Scanに移行かな。

Really good bit of software - the referencing of the April tags allowing scans to be combined with other pointclouds (and specifying the April tags as known control points) makes these scans genuinely useful in a professional setting

Robust 3D scanning, data visualization and management functionality

The Dot3D app has robust 3D scanning, data visualization and management functionality. Great for multiple use cases and integrates with iOS devices as well as 3rd party scanning hardware.

Keine Hilfe beim bedienen, keine Einweisung in die Einstellungen usw. Man darf sich alles selber ….

Awesome app. Using it with FLX100!

Response from developer

Thank you for the nice review. Glad the integration with the FLX100plus is working well for you.

Limited demo, pro version is fantastic

I previously wrote a review explaining in couldn’t actually test anything with the free trial. The developer replied yesterday that I probably hadn’t activated the trial. I definitely did, so I suggest the developer needs to test it themselves.

In any case, I was desperate to get a working solution, and Dot3D seemed to be the only app on the market that would do exactly what I needed. So I opted to take the plunge almost a month ago and bought a one-month pro licence.

This software is fantastic!

I need it to survey very large areas (cemeteries, so areas 100m x 100m with many monuments/headstones, footpaths, trees, etc.). Using April Tags and my RTK GNSS receiver, I am able to collect point cloud data covering everything in the cemetery with an error margin of less than an inch (when compared to mapping data in had collected previously using RTK GNSS and a total station).

During data collection, there were a few times when data collection was interrupted eg by a phone call. The app allowed me to recover where I was and continue collecting more data without having to go back and restart from scratch.

Using multiple April Tags is key to getting (internally) accurate data, as these are used to compensate and correct for the iPhone’s IMU sensor drift. Georeferencing those tags with the RTK receiver, and importing those coordinates into Dot3D, allows the user to export a georeferenced point cloud.

Post processing of the data (i.e. the “optimize” button) took about two hours when processing such a large dataset (100x100m area, iPhone 15 Pro Max). I admit I was nervous the app would crash during this (based on my earlier testing of other scanning apps). While my phone was inoperable during processing (as I dared not interrupt it), it worked perfectly. I was then able to export the point cloud, loaded it into my GIS software on my computer, and compared the data to my existing map, and saw it was positioned perfectly.

(It is also possible, and also my intention in future, to simply collect smaller areas, and stitch them together e.g. using Cloud Compare. I just wanted to stress-test the app and phone itself before committing to using it for routine work purposes in future.)

I am really pleased with this app and am happy to integrate it into my workflow for every job i have from now on.

Four requests for the developers if possible, please:

1. Exporting a high-resolution orthophoto to a GeoTIFF file would be great. Another app I tried earlier (3D Scanner App) can do this, but of course they don’t use the April Tags, so it doesn’t have the accuracy of Dot3D. If exporting orthophotos to GeoTIF could be implemented in Dot3D, that would remove any need for me to use a laptop while at my worksite or take the data home to work on it on a desktop computer.

2. It would be nice if scan registration could be done within the app. This would allow the user to collect scans of smaller areas and then stitch them together into one big point cloud.

3. During data optimisation, it would be good if this can continue operating in the background while I use other apps, or even have the phone screen locked. It would also be useful if a message displayed on the screen during optimisation that says this is possible (so users don’t worry about it). I’m not sure if this is even possible given how Apple’s app system works, but it would be great if possible.

4. As I am working on very large sites, it would be handy to be able to collect the data in one small area, then go and collect the data in another area, and so on, until the entire worksite has been scanned. Then it would be great to be able to create a “queue” for scan optimisation, so I could create a list of all Dot3D projects to optimise (could be a dozen or so projects/scans), and then press a button to start and it’ll work through optimising all of those scans. That would allow scan optimisation to be done in batch e.g. at night when I’m asleep. That way everything is ready when I wake up the following day.

Thanks Dot3D devs! This app is great!

Response from developer

Sorry for the confusion! The free trial is indeed free and fully featured. You just need to activate the 7-day trial from within the app to access it. Without activating the free trial first, you were likely just using the app in Free mode, which does still allow scanning/testing, but is indeed very restricted in terms of exports/functionality. I hope this helps clear things up! If you'd like a complimentary fully-featured trial extension, just let us know.

Demo is limited

I wanted to ensure this app would meet my needs, so I signed up for the seven day free trial, foolishly assuming that the trial would allow me to… trial… the features of the software. Nope!

The things I needed to test are only available in the paid version, not even in the seven day trial, so I have no way of knowing if this app will meet my needs or not, unless I pay almost $80 for a one-month license, which isn’t going to happen.

The developers might want to rethink that as I was seriously interested in buying an ongoing license, but now I’m not.

Great app!

Just started up using this app and it is great! It is easy to use. I was happy to find an affordable option that has such great accuracy.

Super easy and intuitive

This app is super easy to use with an iPhone and takes amazing data. Democratizing 3D scanning and making it easy for everyone.

Amazing!

This app is a game-changer! The scans are fast, super accurate, and processed on my device! Great for detailed, professional 3D models on the go — couldn’t recommend it more!

Response from developer

Thank you very much for your positive review. We work very hard to make Dot3D best iOS LiDAR professional app.

Amazing

This app was incredibly simple to use, and extremely accurate! I highly recommend it for any use!

Reliable, Accurate, and Easy

Dot3D for iOS is the most user friendly of the 3D LiDAR apps that can still provide pro results. The application is set up to do quick captures and prevent errors. Survey grade accuracy, integration with other CAD and mapping technology, as well as thoughtful annotations. This is a lot of 3D utility in your pocket for a great price. The cost and ease of use really support first time / casual users as well as large organizations that want to scale up 3D tools to their whole team.

Faszinierend

Funktioniert extrem gut

Another bait and switch

The App Store is just clogged with apps that claim to be freemium but the free mode is basically worthless. This is another one.

Response from developer

I am sorry you feel that way. Dot3D is free and you may scan and view what you scan as much as you want in Free mode. Sorry you don’t think that is enough. However Dot3D Pro features are not just another consumer app for playing around with. It is meant for professional users who value accuracy and the ability to use professional workflows. A lot of work has gone into those features and we must charge for those.
