Reading daily!

I was skeptical but this app really works for me. For years I’ve looked for stories I could read in Spanish that weren’t terribly boring or too difficult. The Eppika stories are at my level and they’re interesting. I’m enjoying reading in Spanish - yay!

Response from developer

This is exactly the balance we work hardest to get right — interesting AND at your level, not just simplified. So glad it clicked for you. Enjoy the next book! — Nick, Eppika Team

Keep it up!

I’ve been reading nightly on and off for about a month now and seeing my vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency increase. In addition to practicing more with friends and family, listening to Spanish podcasts, and watching shows with Spanish subtitles or dubbed, this app is certainly playing a part in helping me gain confidence in learning a new language.

Response from developer

This is exactly what we hoped reading nightly would do — and pairing it with podcasts, subtitles and real conversations is the right way to do it. Thank you for taking the time to write this up. Enjoy the next book. — Nick, Eppika

Far too expensive

No wonder it’s impossible to find the price mentioned on their website, it’s £81 a year… But, there are subscriptions listed in the pay options 1/2 that price obviously offered probably when you are not gullible. I’m tired of this scalping model of apps, just offer the same & fair price to everyone. I’m not sure why companies do this, it makes me instantly distrust them. I’ve not tried the reading, I’ll stick with the far more reasonable app that’s 1/4 of this price that I’m already using.

Response from developer

Thanks for the honest feedback. To clarify: there's one standard annual price shown at signup, with a 7-day free trial so nothing is charged before you decide. The lower price you saw is a separate loyalty/win-back offer shown later to people who've already tried the app - not a different price for different people up front. Sorry it read as a bait-and-switch; happy to have you try the free trial if you reconsider. - Nick from the Eppika Team

Excited to try

I am a teacher and am excited to try this app to further my Spanish that I use for my home life and work. However, I wanted to say that the reason I chose to download is due to the thoughtful responses of the developer to others. Thank you for caring about your customers.

After using the app for a few days:
I love that I could just jump to my intermediate level and begin learning! I have never found a language program that allowed this; and I have searched for years!

The books are interesting and entertaining. I am enjoying reading in a way I did not expect. I love that I can practice the tenses in Spanish in real time! (Especially past tense!)

I love the feature that will allow me to save words I do not understand.

I have two suggestions:
1. After I practice the vocabulary word. I would like to use the “hard/ easy” tool. Could you make it sort my words so that I can just review the words I marked “hard” for me?

Also, I would love a highlight tool. So that I could highlight phrases to review. This would help me to review the hard words together in the context of the story.

Thank you so much for the kind words, and welcome! 🎉 We hope Eppika helps make Spanish feel natural for both home and work. Come back and update your review anytime — and if you ever hit a snag, email support@eppika.com and we'll sort it fast.

Great books but a bit expensive

I did a 7 day free trial and I liked the books and being able to save words, especially for past tense conjugations in the wild but it’s too expensive.

Response from developer

Thanks for giving it a try, and glad saving words (those past-tense conjugations especially) clicked for you. I hear you on price — the yearly plan works out a lot cheaper per month than the weekly. If you'd like to keep going, email support@eppika.com and I'll sort out a better rate for you.

Amazing

Best app. So good.

I tried this without sound at first and it’s great! I’m at level 94 after 800 days with Duolingo French and this intermediate level story was perfect. I was unsure of a few words but just touched them for a translation. I will go back and read it again along with the narrator to improve my listening skills and accent. Just great!

Response from developer

Thank you, this made our day! Love that the intermediate level landed just right and that a quick tap kept you reading. Going back through with the narrator is a great way to sharpen listening and accent. Happy reading!

Great app for readers!

Love being able to read my favorite stories in my Target language level. It makes it easy to build my vocabulary and see my progress!

I only wish that the bot reader came in different voices and the vocabulary review was more than 10 words at a time.

Response from developer

Thank you, so glad the level-matched stories and progress tracking are working for you! Different narrator voices and longer vocab-review sessions are both great suggestions — I've passed them to the team. Happy reading!

Way too many errors

Reading the daily stories during my free trial was enjoyable. But reading my first book in Spanish (a simplified version of a novel, El niño de la bola) was a terrible experience. Characters’ names were all mixed up; key details were left out; and some same sentences were repeated again and again, to the extent that it got really boring. Would not recommend this App until these problems get fixed.

Response from developer

Thank you for the detailed feedback — and we're really glad the daily stories landed well. You're right about El niño de la bola: mixed-up names, missing details, and repeated lines shouldn't happen, and we've flagged that book for a full rework. We'd genuinely love for you to give it another try once it's updated. — The Eppika Team

Feels like a beta product.

Overpriced for a work in progress Quotation marks missing in most books when a character is speaking. No mute button. No ability to delete unwanted books. You can save words into a vocab list, but no context, part of speech, verb tense, etc; Nothing but the word and translation, making this feature mostly worthless. You can click on a word in a book and you get the exact same result. This app has so much potential if it ever gets finished.

Response from developer

Thank you for the detailed, fair feedback. Tapping a word shows its meaning in context, and we hear you that the vocab list needs more — part of speech, tense, examples — it's on our list. The missing quotation marks in dialogue is a real bug we're fixing; a mute option and removing books are noted too. Email support@eppika.com and we'll follow up as these ship. We'd love to earn more stars. — The Eppika Team

I Like It but…

I’ve been using this app for about a month now and I really enjoy the selection of stories at my level. I actually look forward to my daily Spanish reading. But there are a couple things I think could be better. I wish I could save phrases and not just single words. I think a library of common phrases would be helpful for the user.

The biggest issue for me is when I cannot finish a story in the hours allotted, it just disappears! A new story appears the next day with seemingly no way back to unfinished reading. I was engrossed by some stories I didn’t get to finish (life happens). And while I can see all my completed books, I can’t find my incomplete reading! Am I missing something?

Also, while the story selection is wonderful in simplified Spanish, I found at least one that was very inaccurate (like it was written by AI). I believe the “Hero” of Eppika’s translation of the La Camisa de Margarita is actually the “bad” guy. Am I wrong? Because I enjoy the reading, I often look up the stories after reading them in the app so I was surprised by such an inaccuracy. Of course, many details of the original stories are left out for simplicity but some details actually drive the story and without those details, the story doesn’t really make sense (so far only one story was really confusing because of missing details). I suspect AI to be the culprit. So, I do hope the Spanish pronunciation and phrasing I am learning on Eppika isn’t mangled by AI, as I read a review where someone mentioned the pronunciation is sometimes incorrect.

Response from developer

Thank you, yogojo! Two things: saving phrases (not just single words) is a great idea we're considering. And on stories "disappearing" — the daily free story is just for that day, but any book you open from the library stays there for you to continue. If one read as inaccurate, tell us which at support@eppika.com and we'll fix it. — The Eppika Team

Tudo é pago.

Se quiser usar de graça eles liberam uma mísera história por dia, ou então você paga SEISCENTOS REAIS POR ANO para ter acesso aos livros. Muito mais fácil comprar os livros no idioma pretendido.

Obrigado pelo retorno, Ana. Entendemos a questão do preço — por isso há uma história grátis todos os dias, sem assinatura. A assinatura mantém toda a biblioteca, o áudio e as novidades semanais. — Equipe Eppika

Just what I needed to improve my Italian

Fantastic learning app. I am B1 in Italian. I read the story of the day at intermediate level every morning. You can click on a word and the audio reads aloud, and gives you a translation, with the option to save in a review list.
Not only is this great for my Italian, but I am reading classic literary short stories by amazing authors, instead of clunky “written for learners” stories.
Probably not for anyone who doesn’t enjoy reading fiction.

Grazie mille! Reading real literary short stories instead of clunky "written-for-learners" text is exactly our aim — so glad it's helping your Italian. — The Eppika Team

Free Versión

Honest review on the free version. It’s just enough mentally for me to read a short story! I love that they are elementary level and max 5-10 minute reads. I definitely think this is a great way to increase vocabulary quickly and it has also helped me learn the past tense better!

Response from developer

Thank you, Ashg03! Short, elementary reads that fit into a busy day — that's exactly the idea. So glad it's helping with the past tense! — The Eppika Team

Loving it!

I read Lessons in Chemistry and thought the level was perfect - enough challenge but easy enough for there yo be “flow”. I LOVED that I could click on a word to see its meaning and save it. Finally I can read in Spanish without having to stop and look up words!!

Response from developer

Thank you! "Flow" is the exact sweet spot we aim for — challenging but readable. Glad tap-to-save is working for you. — The Eppika Team

It’s great!

It really helps to have the ability to translate so quickly in real time so far, loving it

Response from developer

Thank you! Real-time translation while you read is our favorite feature too. Enjoy! — The Eppika Team

Clunky

Rather difficult to use. There doesn’t seem to be a way to return to the home page from a story. Also, the slowest speed is 0.8 which is still a little fast when encountering words which are new in quick succession. It’s not easy to pause and restart at will. Any contact with the text results in the audio leaping to that point. Finally, I find I can read the books pretty well but the audio is just too fast. So it doesn’t really do what I wanted and leaves me frustrated. Probably reasonably priced - but Not for me.

Response from developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback, JanM13. Two quick things that might help: to leave a story, tap the ✕ at the top-left — it takes you back to the home tab. And tapping a word is meant to do two jobs — show its translation and move the audio to that point — which is why the narration jumped on you. You're right that the slowest speed is limited, though; genuinely slower narration and easier pausing are on our list. If you'd give it another go, email support@eppika.com and we'll help. — The Eppika Team

no indication that you have to pay

the app doesn’t tell you anywhere that you have to pay to access the full stories. without paying a subscription you literally can’t do anything and there is nothing that tells you this until you’re halfway through a story. incredibly disappointing

Response from developer

Hi Mrs Melon, thanks for the honest feedback — we hear you, and we're sorry the subscription wasn't clearer upfront. We'd love to make this right, but the App Store only shows us your nickname, so we can't look up your account from here. Could you email us at support@eppika.com with the Apple ID email you used? We'll find you straight away and sort it out — whether that's extending a free trial, a refund, or just helping you get reading. Your feedback on the paywall visibility is going straight to the product team either way. — The Eppika team

This app doesn’t work

Asked my many times the same question and never started it has a loop. Looks like scam

Response from developer

Hi Johana, this is Nick from Eppika — I'm really sorry about the rough start. You were right to flag this: we've confirmed a bug in the onboarding flow where navigating back can send you through the same questions again. The fix is in progress. I'd like to make it right personally — please email support@eppika.com and I'll take care of a full refund today, no hassle. If you ever want to give it another try after the fix ships, reach out and I'll set you up for free. Thanks for the honest feedback — it's how we get better.

Scam

Bought the app through a link. I payed for the month option which then took my information, then downloaded the app. When I tried to log in it said I have to create an account and pay again. There is no sign in option and when they send you an email it’s a code that can’t be put anywhere. Total scam.
