Love Etsy but shipping get me
There’s nothing like some of the unique creations available on Etsy. I love being able to pose questions to the makers and enjoy the process of interacting with them about their works.
Often makers modify their products to better meet my needs. That’s been so gratifying. I have certain unique needs due to physical disabilities, and people have been kind and overall very accommodating.
That said, the main things that get me are shipping charges. A tiny fraction of sellers, mainly, it seems, those selling very light weight goods, offer free shipping.
In most cases though, there is a shipping cost added to the cost of the item(s) purchased, and lately, especially from certain locales, a substantial charge. In particular, I’ve noticed shipping costs from the UK have become egregious, adding as much as 25-30% of the cost of the item. This may be the case for other maker/sender locations. I just happen to have noticed very high charges from UK sellers. Who sets the charges, I don’t know. I know I must pay the fees.
I just paid a huge % markup to ship a small artist object from England to the US because it was important enough to me. In most cases though, now if I see a piece is from the UK, I simply move on without even checking shipping costs. That makes me sad, but it’s a fact of life on Etsy.
In the age of Amazon Prime, high shipping fees are, I’m sure, a reason for much lost Etsy business. Etsy sellers should band together and seek to solve this problem with their “landlord” Etsy. I still love Etsy but always grumble about paying a lesser but substantial markup for shipping within the US. If the day of free Etsy shipping ever arrives, I will be one happy Etsy camper!

Inspiration not so inspiring
Etsy was great to discover those hard to find treasures, however lately it’s been extremely difficult to find relevant items. Etsy is persistently showing me products and services I don’t want to buy, have never bought in the past, don’t even look at, and which I repeatedly try to hide by selecting “see less of this.”
I truly enjoy Etsy, but not being able to find what one would like to purchase is not only bad for buyers, but the sellers losing out on transactions.

Etsy has faced issues with individuals selling clearly AI-altered images and misrepresenting the true nature of the product.

Delivery timeline
All together I enjoy Etsy and their abilities to make you pretty much anything you can think of. However recently I’ve had so many issues with sellers saying packages are shipped and they are not. They create the label to be shipped but might take days/weeks to actually send out packages. Constantly receiving packages late and past expected dates.

Everyone is unhelpful.
Completely unusable ghost platform now due to fake AI product pictures/ghost sellers
My previous review was 2 stars because of how bad dropshipping of temu/aliexpress had gotten, making it impossible to find real handmade stuff. Good god now I can’t even find cheap garbage because every search term you could think of is FILLED with ai generated pictures of products that can’t possibly actually exist from automated storefronts. I can’t buy them, obviously, because these shops don’t actually make the things they sell. Most results have 0 reviews on individual products, yet somehow show up with the “star seller” filter on, so I know none of your other customers are falling for these scams either. Congrats, you have completely ruined an incredibly successful platform. It is UNUSABLE. There’s no way to even locate stores from real people I might’ve considered buying from, and scrolling for hours still doesnt get you through the tens of thousands of AI listings. I’m deleting the app off my phone.

A lot of the designs are even stolen/ripped off from actual creators, making it difficult to find the actual product (because the ripoff version usually arrives looking nothing like it, at best.) The sponsored ads are also usually the same 2 listings repeating over and over, so i keep accidentally opening the item ive already looked at. It’s super depressing. Not only is it screwing over actual artists—it’s screwing over the customer. I’m basically getting an infinite feed of garbage that’s only vaguely related to keywords in my search. I can’t find anything I actually want to buy.
