Fermata: Daily Stillness Timer

Fermata records how still your iPhone was during the minutes you mark, using the phone's own motion sensor, and draws that minute as a field of light. There is no score anywhere in it. A hold ends with one plain word (still, settling, drifting or scattering) and the minutes you held the phone. When the phone cannot read a moment, Fermata says so. If the trace shows the phone was resting on a table rather than held, the hold closes as "not read" and no reading is invented. An instrument that refuses is more useful than one that guesses. WHAT A HOLD IS Mark a moment. Hold your iPhone for one, three or five minutes. Fermata reads how steady the phone was while you held it, using the phone's own motion sensor, and draws that reading as a field of light that is yours alone. The reading is a shape, not a score. A steady minute comes out as a band of light with a hard bright edge. An unsteady one comes out as the same light with no edge anywhere. You can read it in greyscale, upside down, from across the room, which is the point: nothing about it needs decoding. There is no number, ever. No percentage, no grade, no verdict. One plain word and the minutes it took.
