Cushion answers one question, once a day: how much is safe to spend right now? The answer arrives as one plain sentence on an otherwise quiet screen. "You have $312 safe to spend until June 14." Nothing else in the app competes with that number for your attention. You never hand over a bank login. There is no Plaid connection and no account to create, because the figure is deterministic arithmetic computed on your iPhone: your account balances, minus the bills due before your next payday, minus a safety buffer you set. You can check the math by hand. HOW THE NUMBER IS BUILT Enter your account balances. Enter the bills due before your next payday. Set the safety buffer you want left standing when payday arrives. Cushion subtracts, and what remains is the number. That is the whole model, and it is the reason the figure recomputes in under 150ms on every single edit: change a bill and the sentence has updated before you look up. Because the model is small enough to explain in one paragraph, it is small enough to audit. If the number ever looks wrong to you, you can find out why with a pencil.
