About

Filiation is a family tree for iPhone and iPad with nothing to sign up for and nothing sent anywhere. Open the GEDCOM file you already have, or start from yourself, and the whole family is on one continuous canvas: pinch from a single card out to every generation at once, and back, without the tree ever being cut into pages. FREE TO DOWNLOAD, NO PERSON LIMIT Build a tree of any size for free: unlimited people, dates, places, photos, sources and notes, GEDCOM in and out, the hourglass, Ancestors and Descendants views, the People list and the inspector. Your research is never locked in. Filiation Pro is one in-app purchase for the fan chart, the timeline and chart export to PDF and PNG. No subscription, no paid upgrades: buy it once and the updates are included. KEY FEATURES • The Whole Tree, One Canvas — The hourglass puts one person in the middle, ancestors above and descendants below, and re-centres on anyone you tap; on iPad, Back and Forward retrace the people you visited. Pull back and the entire tree is a single picture you can pan across, not a window of a few generations. • Every Family Fits — Second marriages, half-siblings, adoption and single parents are drawn as they are, not squeezed into a chart that expects one couple per child. • Dates as the Registers Wrote Them — "About 1887", "before 1900", "between 1872 and 1875", or a phrase exactly as the record gave it. Cards show the year; the inspector shows the date in full. • When the File Disagrees With Itself — A mother born after her child, a marriage a century early: Filiation marks the people involved and says which record contradicts which, so you know what to look up. • What Is Still Missing — A ? on a card counts what the record lacks: a name, a birth or death date, parents or a source. The inspector lists each one, so you know where the research goes next. • Sources Behind Every Fact — Cite a source on any fact from its editor, new or already in the tree, or straight from a missing-source gap. Rename a source once and every fact that cites it follows. • Fan Chart and Timeline — Ancestors as a fan you can turn, and lives laid out along the years with their marriages and the history they lived through. (Pro) • Photos on Every Card — Add a photo from Photos or Files, or drag one in on iPad, and it goes on the person's card, framed the way you crop it. • Charts That Match the Screen — Export the view you are looking at as a PDF or PNG, drawn exactly as the canvas draws it, from one page to a wall poster. (Pro) • GEDCOM Both Ways — Imports GEDCOM 5.5.1 and 7 with a report of anything it could not place, and exports GEDCOM 7, or a GEDZIP bundle with your photos inside. • Living People, Protected — Filiation works out who is probably still alive from the whole family's dates, and can withhold their details from any file you export. • Find Anyone — The People list finds anyone under every name they were recorded with, maiden names included. Touch and hold a card or a name to add a parent, partner, child or sibling. • Spotlight — If you turn it on, find anyone in your trees from Spotlight and open their tree on them. PRIVACY BY DESIGN No account, no server, no analytics, no ads. Your trees and photos stay on your device, and Filiation collects no data at all. REQUIREMENTS iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later.

What's New in Filiation

1.1.0

October 23, 2026

The tree canvas now works on every iPhone and iPad that runs iOS 26, and Filiation is now in French. • Double-tap a card to open the person in the inspector. • A first launch opens on a welcome: start with yourself, open a GEDCOM file or try the sample tree. • GEDCOM imports keep more: "Abt." and "circa" dates stay approximate, adoptions from other programs come through, and inline sources and GEDCOM 7 shared notes are no longer lost. • Surnames with a particle, like "de Gaulle", file under G in the People list. • Exported charts show stars and lose their extra margins. • Two quick edits in a row no longer lose one of them. • Fixes for several crashes with damaged files.
