FT in your sweaty palm
It’s the FT but instead of having to wrestle a broadsheet on a BA flight operated by KLM Cityhopper to Amsterdam seated next to a large banker, one can hold it in one’s hand. Splendid!
FT Edit
Like the app. Two days in a row FT Edit has repeated one of the ‘curated’ articles.
Basic .. buggy .. ok
It’s ok does the job. One of those where the account management stuff is an embedded web page so doesn’t really fix things in the app properly , looks like it was made on the cheap .
Oh also you can contact help but by the time they reply it times out and you can’t get back to your chat session rendering the help system utterly useless
For the price of an FT subscription you’d expect an app of much higher quality than this hastily put together hodgepodge of app/website … disappointing but I guess does the core job ok but nothing more

Good journalism, conservative audience
I read the comments section to see the input of other readers to gain additional information about an article. I’ve come across a number of misogynistic comments, which go unchecked and are met with likes, not rebuttals.
Inflation hits the FT too
Subscriber since 2006. Quality is half what it was. Articles that are advertisements, comments lacking depth. Once we read along with political leaders and leaders of industry whose comments have weight and depth to the articles. Now this are rare replaced mostly by echo chamber huzzah! Its time for an alternative

I’m a 70 year old retired hedge fund manager. I Retired 24 years ago. This paper is the best. It covers almost everything I care about. Thanks

An app that actually downloads its content for offline use
Content in the FT is good. But that’s not the app. The main distinctive feature of the app I like is that it actually updates and downloads current content to your device so it can be read offline. That barely seems to ever work with most other news apps these days.
Pointless
The FT has become nothing more than a left wing establishment propaganda machine. Very sad for a once great a trusted source.

Good Journalism, mostly mid/bad takes in the opinion section
Overall the FT impresses with a very well written and informative articles covering topics almost all topics related to economics and politics. I remember reading a fascinating piece about the relationship between the rise of Apple and China. But the Opinion section is a mix of Thatcherite and Blairte Neoliberalism with a cultish reverence for the financial sector and capitalism with little regard for worker interests. But they are Pro-EU so you can forgive them. Overall it feels a bit like having a lecture by a very educated but right wing economics professor.

The worst news source, except for all the others
Relatively unbiased, very good source for international/global news.
Devs didn’t think through offline reading
You get prompts clearly saying ‘the article is ready for offline viewing’, but there’s one fatal flaw: the app doesn’t launch without internet.
It stays at the splash/loading screen if you don’t have internet, which completely defeats the purpose of offline reading.

Worse than it used to be. Keeps locking up.
The basic functionality is ok but at some point recently they pumped up the advertising side. Now it won’t start without a validated connection, which wrecks the point of a MOBILE app where people are intermittently connected. Also, I’m convinced that the switch to videos for advertising has made it more brittle because I’m seeing more crashes and resets. (And I’m less likely to look at the hook from a video than a static image). All in all, a bit of an own goal.
