User reviews

Can it be made more affordable

It's been four years no update. Could you please make it more affordable if there's gonna be no more updates.

Brilliant

Works so good with my Blackmagic 6k Pro.

This app could be five stars, but it's not quite there yet

I am SERIOUSLY urging the developer of this app to return to this app and upgrade a few things here and there

Using the camera for face detection (similar to the DJI lidar system), allowing for you to virtually offset the point that the focus is looking at in 3D space, essentially allowing you to place the lidar without needing it to be exactly parallel with the lens to function properly, and maybe a more guided calibration process

obviously that's a lot to develop, but I would seriously be willing to pay upwards not $100 for an app that does that stuff, easily.

Response from developer

Hi, It's been a long time coming but the app now has subject tracking, guided calibration and focus smoothing. Included in a free update.

Bluetooth connection not working

I was super excited to use this app but when I connect my camera… nothing works. I try to change the focus value and nothing changes on my camera. It’s very frustrating. Please let me know if there’s a fix as I spent the money and would love to use this app.

Response from developer

Hi there, I have tested this app with Panasonic Lumix lenses (focus by wire) and a Sigma Art lens (18-35, f1.8) connected to a BMPCC 4K using a Metabones 0.71x and they work as expected. If you go to the app website and leave a comment telling me your setup and I will investigate.

FAQ

What does the Focus Puller app do?

The Focus Puller app provides two distinct methods for controlling the focus of compatible Blackmagic cameras. It offers a manual focus mode that extends the focus throw for greater precision and a LiDAR-based focus control for compatible iOS devices that measures distance to subjects and calculates focus.

What are the key features of Focus Puller?

Key features include manual focus control with an extended focus throw, allowing for more precise adjustments than standard lenses. It also offers optional haptic feedback for focus points and LiDAR focus control for iOS devices with LiDAR scanners, enabling instantaneous distance measurement and focus calculation.

How much does Focus Puller cost?

All features of the Focus Puller app can be tried for free with an unlimited trial period. The app operates on a freemium model, indicating that while core functionality is free, certain advanced features or full access may require a purchase or subscription.

What devices are compatible with Focus Puller?

The app works with any Blackmagic camera that supports a Bluetooth connection and has a lens that allows for focus control. The manual mode is compatible with any iOS device, while the LiDAR Focus Control feature requires an iOS device equipped with a LiDAR scanner.

What are common use cases for Focus Puller?

A primary use case is enabling a focus puller to operate independently from the camera operator, allowing for more dynamic camera movements. It's particularly useful when using still lenses for video, as it overcomes the limited focus throw, and for situations requiring precise, repeatable focus marks.
