Other things that could be improved
Food Tacker app
Great for diabetic food exchange program
Not enough features to justify the cost
Solid.
Disappointed with what you get for the cost
-I would expect recipes ideas and links to websites with recipes
-tips on how to plan your day would be good
-more serving size options please
Easy to count portions and not calories
Don’t waste your money
Don’t buy! $4.99 is not worth it.
Buggy,DONT BUY use exchanges in a free calorie tracker instead
I regret buying this as I can't figure out how to get a refund. Consider this purchase the equivalent of ripping a $5 bill in half.
This app has an old and extremely buggy UI.
(1) you cannot backfill because of bugs. You'd better remember to log every day because if you don't you can never fix it!
(2) you cannot fix a mistake in your current day log, or just adjust an exchange down, instead you have to go into a context menu and wipe the entire log clean and start over! There is no down--Only up and start over.
Not bugs, but stupid choices:
(3) The ui is designed to make you feel good (green) if you are under your goal servings and bad (red) if you are over. However (1) you cannot set the goal high enough for protein and fat to get to e.g. 130g of protein. (3) all goals go from green to red, so if you under your veg and water goal? Green. Over? Red. Very stupid UI choice.
(4) cannot add custom foods. If you eat a lot of mixed type dishes it is annoying to have to enter 1/2 meat + 1/4 starch + 1/2 fat etc for each serving and do that math. Custom foods would solve this problem but isn't available.
(5) everything in the ADA book should be available to look up as a good and log as a portion e.g. Look up "hummus" and log 1/3 cup of it correctly as 1 starch + 1 fat. Instead, you have to do all of your own portion math. This app is ONLY for tallying portions, as in seeing 6 starch, 5 fat, etc, which most people can easily do on a sheet of paper for free and less bugs.
Instead of this, use loseit! or another free app. Create custom foods called "starch exchange" serving size: one exchange. Do this for all food groups. Log that way. It's harder to see how many exchanges you've had all day, but I create a "food note" that tracks this. At the end of the day you get an estimate of your calories and macros. The best part is that it's free.
Easy to use
Great tool
Just does the basics
So a 2 star rating reflects the fact this does the basic function I was after - if the app was free to ~$1.00, this rating would have been 4.5-5 as my expectations would have been lower. Hopefully some investment is due for this app in the months to come to align the UI and functions with the price tag.
Portion size
4-6 grains
5+vegies
2 fruit
2-3 protein etc
This apps tell me
2-3 serve of vegies
5 serves protein
Love it!
It's alright if you just want to count servings
1. The developers would tweak it where you can change the order of the food groups. Right now the food items that you add are on a page you have to swipe to see. Some of the stock foods I won't use (i.e. Alcohol), and would like to move them to the second page.
2. If they would load pictures of possible food groups (i.e. Coffee, post-workout drink, pre-workout drink) that you can assign to your custom food groups.
3. Add "+" and "-" buttons to make it easier to edit mistakes when entering servings. Right now you have to go to settings and undo the previous entry
4. Even though this is an app that helps count servings, it would be a lot better if it were made into an all-in-one app that could count calories, scan food upc's and automatically count your servings based off the upc information (like "lose it" and other apps.
5. The most amount of servings you can add to any particular food group is 12, however, according to my workout I need 13 servings of Protein. It would be nice to change the feature to allow more servings. The slider bar is nice, maybe add a feature where I can also enter a number for the amount of servings needed.
6. Trivial, however, the app User interface is pretty juvenile, and looks like it was developed out of a garage with someone who knows basic code. Beef up the look.
