I’m convinced this app is the only reason I was able to manage my pre-study ADHD anxiety while in nursing school. I have a successful nursing career today because of it. Additionally I use it to manage my late night sleepy time doom scrolling. It’s hard to stop, I quite literally cannot without something else to intervene on my own behalf, this is where Freedom comes in. When I need to focus or sleep I block times and it works for me. I’ve been a Freedom user for going on 5 years now and it’s quite genuinely given me a sense of Freedom of the trap of time wasters and online distractions.

Necessary app for these times
With addictive tech eroding our attention and AI threatening our knowledge production capacities, apps like Freedom help create a necessary wall to focus and do deep flow state work. Especially good is their cross device sync and the ability to block native apps like iMessage.

Title says it all. Once you get your head around setting up different block lists and how to schedule them this app is brilliant. If you’re addicted to social media or emails or whatever then I’d highly recommend this
Blocking apps issue
This app does not even do its purpose:( It’s supposed to decrease your screen time but it does NOTHING!! I don’t know if it’s only an issue for iOS but this prevents the app from doing its sole purpose. Have a good one and God bless ✋

I have the premium version but I ran into an unusual problem. While editing a recurring session for bedtime, I changed the 12:30 am initial start time to 12:00. I didn’t notice that whenever you edit the time for a recurring session, it reverts back to the default pm designation. The moment I clicked save, my computer locked up in the middle of the day and will only open the following morning. I used my phone to send an email to support and explain my situation, then Claire acted on my issue immediately. I was just putting down my phone expecting to wait an hour or so for a reply when I received a notification in my computer telling me that the recurring session was over. This occurred even before she replied to my message, maybe just a few seconds after I clicked send! Claire was awesome! The support for premium users is truly beyond expectations. If you’re still on the fence on getting the premium version, jump on in. Not only is the software excellent, the customer support is equally exceptional!

Solid blocker, but struggles with captive WiFi networks.
Freedom in its current iteration makes connecting to captive WiFi networks very frustrating. I’ve had to disable it entirely to take advantage of WiFi in some public spaces, which has resulted in me falling back into my Reddit scrolling addiction! I hope this issue can be fixed soon, since it otherwise does a great job at selectively bricking parts of your phone.

At first it was pretty much the same as setting up screen time in your phone through settings, but I thought it was different. I had it for three days when it starting charging money for something you can get for free ON SETTINGS. Also for some reason I can’t delete it!

Issue to end session whenever, useless for Mac
This app used to be fairly decent, but now they went over to VPN blocking all you have to do to make this useless is by turning off VPN on your device! Don’t waste your money!
