Still the only platform I’ll ever use. Latest update the pause feature doesn’t work

I just wanted to let the developers of this app know that the pause feature is not working for me and the only way to pause a show is by using my Bluetooth earbuds. I would appreciate it if this was resolved. As for the overall review of the app, This is something I’ve said before but I’ll say it again, I’m a 90s baby and have grown up with Funimation incorporated into my life so to hear that this app will be moving over to crunchyroll, (whom is in the middle of a class action lawsuit btw) it made me cringe. I don’t think it’s the best decision for the platform as a whole or even for Sony to force people like me, who finds Funimation a very nostalgic and fun concept that has been woven into their life and wish to continue to be, over to a platform that we will never fully embrace or commit to because let’s be real. There’s a lot more people than just myself who will not be making the switch and that’s a lot of lost revenue for Sony and Funimation. The second this app stops working is the day I will be going old school and watching DVDs and watching other platforms. Crunchyroll will not be one of those things.

Policy for refund needs to be updated

So I bought it cause I thought as advertised that they had Naruto movie 6 and 7 available but when I tried it didn’t work. Now this is the ONLY reason I bought it cause I have crunchyroll and it works for me but they don’t have those movies available in this region, so when I saw Google showed funimation had it I thought great and when you go to the app on a streaming device or my phone when I search for it the movie shows up and even allows you to click on it, it just won’t play and refers you to customer service, so I reached out and customer service says they don’t have the rights to show it anymore, fair enough so that same day I requested a refund cause I don’t need it if I can’t watch what I wanted to see, they referred me to Apple, apple always gives me back my money on purchases but they did this time and when I asked they said the developer funimation’s policy does not permit them to do so, and referred me to funimation, reached out to them and their response, because I paid through third party (Apple) they have no way to refund me. It should not be this way. That’s a full month that I still have yet to use cause I don’t want to that has done NOTHING for me

FAIL in any language

Your app translations are as bad as the translations on your anime (but better-voiced): “Only Premium Plus and Premium Plus Ultra users must[sic] be able to access the app offline” And I thought the app was useless BEFORE! You are deliberately blocking access to PAID Digital Copies. Can you say “Class Action Lawsuit”? Update: this app FAILs on EVERY platform iOS (iPad and iPhone), PlayStation, Roku, etc. They constantly insert ads into PAID Digital Copies. Why bother logging in or building a digital library when your paid content has ads like anonymous, for-free guest viewing? That’s *IF* your Digital Copies are still in your Library! Funimation didn’t lose the licenses (yet)… those paid-for episodes are available but only on the main stream… with ads or, get this, only to premium subscribers! You need to subscribe to access your purchased content… which is otherwise available to all subscribers! Maybe you can find the missing Digital Copies in your Library by switching platforms, but I can all but guarantee you that they’ll have ads, even if you TRY to watch from My Library / My Anime! And the dubs are still garbage

I have a question about one piece

Your platform your entertainment platform is a 10 out of 10 but I have to wonder why is it whenever you get one piece in English and I watch it like I watch the same episode but it takes you it says it’s in English and Japanese but when I click on it, it says this is not available in English I don’t like like why are you going to get my hopes up being like hey there’s a new episode of one piece better go watch that to just then realize that you have to wait like a couple weeks for them to actually have the episode out. And it’s annoying like like if you don’t have it in English just don’t until it’s done stop getting my hopes up. I am in it with one piece only so just don’t get my hopes up. If you don’t have it ready yet you don’t say that you have it ready that’s just called being a jerk

Many pros and cons

Okay, I would like to start off that this app is amazing, there’s many pros but there’s a few cons. One, the ads. Funimation, every single episode I watch it over-boards the amount of ads. Like when I start an episode it gives me 6-7 ads. When I’m getting to like the middle of an episode ANOTHER 7 ads. When I skip to a part, MORE ADS. Now, I get that there’s premium and all that but like can you reduce the amount of ads?? Like just give two ads or one, don’t give an excessive amount of ads. 1 or 2 ads is fine. Premium from what I’ve heard isn’t as good either. I get that you’re trying to boost your business but believe me when I say this, lesser the ads the more positive reviews you’ll get. No. 2, more language. Now, I get that you need premium to unlock certain subs and dubs, but like why is that an option? It’s as if you’re trying to rob a bunch of people and the subtitles aren’t even accurate to what the characters are saying in the sub version of the anime. 3, adding more anime. Funimation, you should atleast add more anime that has been released and make it sub for like a least amount of time and then add a 2nd option to where u can watch it in English. Alright that’s the end of the review. If your looking to download it be prepared for the amount of ads you’re about to see.

Few problems that need to be address

This is a good app to watch animes like “Demon slayer”, “Dragon ball z” and more however their are mainly two issues i have with the app with one with the video and two reseting passwords. For the video part i feel like their are way to much ads per episode which is usually 3-5 ads per episode which i find annoying as i have to wait a while for the ads to pass only for the same thing to happen for another episode so if you could reduce the number of ads per episode it would make things better.

The next part is probably just me but i recently forgot my password for my account so i tried forget password which could have worked If, it didnt keep saying “their was a issue reseting my password please try again” which i did over and over again but it said the same thing but if theirs nothing wrong with it then its most likely me.

This is all i need to say have a good day.

Get Crunchyroll.

Im going to be brutally honest. They gave up on this streaming service. Days of not being able to connect on mobile but you can PC. Playing a crunchyroll ad before every episode even with a 10 dollar subscription. The only reason i got funimation is to watch One piece dubbed, and thats it. The website version of funimation is terrible. It hogs so much internet from your computer that it has to be the only thing running on your pc. even with it drawing this much internet, it buffers constantly 10 - 13 times per episode where it will skip seconds of content and then start playing in terrible quality. The volume doesnt stay consistent, making you have to lower the volume each time you start an episode. Funimation shared part of its library with crunchyroll to apparently make it the greatest anime experience, but all it did was bring funimations problems to crunchyrolls website too. Ive put off using funimation as i didnt feel like paying, and the minutes of ads with no subscription, and i wish i just stuck with that and never got funimation.

If you aint reading allat, just stay away from funimation and just get crunchyroll or pirate shows.

Ads and more (again)

This app is a breeding ground for ads. If I watch an episode of something, I have to watch an ad, there are at least 2 ad sequences in each episode, and I feel like it is ridiculous. You have to watch at the very least 5 ads each episode. One before you get into the episode, 1-6 ads after the intro, and then another one, maybe two ad sequences after that. Not to mention that after you look at an ad, sometimes you get a black screen and then you are forced to go to another ad sequence like a checkpoint. This company seems money hungry, and is too focused on earnings and ads, than the quality of the app. I feel like they only say they don’t even read the reviews, to see what people feel. In fact, they are so focused on earnings, they made another app, which basically has the same properties and problems of this app. The ads are the main issue. I could understand if the company mitigated the ads down to 2 per sequence, but they don’t.

Good selection of content. Trash Apps

The Good:
They have a great selection of content. At least, I’m happy with it.

The Bad:
I use this on iPhone and Apple TV. On the iPhone when browsing through the full library it will sometimes say it can’t communicate with the servers. This always happens with certain shows like when I try to add DBZ or Naruto to my queue.

It also seems like there is some content available on my phone that’s not available on Apple TV. Like I can watch Akira on my phone, but when I go to the info for it on TV it says there’s no videos.

The Apple TV app is the worst. When I view the details for a show or movie, the back button doesn’t return me to the previous screen; instead it takes me to the main menu. I then have to navigate through the menus back to where I was. When browsing shows it always defaults to most recently added. I switch to alphabetical to make it easier to find what I’m looking for, but it doesn’t let me jump through the alphabet. Then as I said before, if I view something I then have to start all over.

I also tried to navigate to Naruto or DBZ to add them to my queue on my TV, but the app crashes when I try to view them.

Recommendations:
* Fix the back button functionality to work like the rest of Apple TV apps
* Add scroll by letter function / jump to letter function
* Have a disclaimer if a show isn’t available on all supported platforms
* Get an Apple TV for your QA team to test on

terrible..😐

the only reason i gave this app an extra star was only because your app used to work before it started glitching. this all happened in less than a week after downloading. for some reason, whenever i open the app, it doesn't show any videos in my watch history. it tells me to click the top to refresh the page and nothing happens. I couldn't watch a certain anime i was catching up with and some other shows too. it didn't let me play the video and said something about "error 5." I tried reinstalling the app multiple times, and all I got was nothing. It still continued to glitch. My wifi is completely fine and it works with any other streaming app I have on my phone. I tried logging out and logging back in, just for it to say i am unable to get back into my account for some reason. I tried resetting my password for my account and it told me to retry. please fix this, it's really frustrating, and i might as well download crunchyroll instead. 🤦‍♀️

Failure at every turn

This app doesn’t work on mobile or smart TV.

On mobile it will fail to load most times you pull up the app. It will forget your watch history and what you had to your que. 5Mo ago there was a patch that states they fixed their chromcast not connecting. Welp I’ve tried to two chromcasts, one Roku and 2 screen mirrors and it doesn’t work. I tried with other apps just to make sure and they all worked fine.

The app you can download from your smart tv(I have a Samsung). Let’s you sign in just fine. Then proceeds to get stuck in the loading homepage phase. I left it up 30 minutes and it never finished. Pretty basic app that is basically just cloned now a days and it’s super surprising it doesn’t even function half the time. I wouldn’t download and I’m going to cancel my subscription. Do not pay full price for less than full product people. They profit while we “wait” for what the apps is suppose to do in the first place.

Only good for computers

This app is hard to use on a phone because of the ads, but other than that there’s no problems I’ve come across yet. Examples: the ads pop up mostly every five or three minutes depending on how far into the episode you’re on which isn’t that much of a problem but sometimes I accidentally end up clicking on them and it’s confusing to get out of. If I get an ad and exit the app because I got a notification and go back into the app I have to rewatch the ads which I find very annoying. Ads usually pop up right after you click on the show which again, isn’t a problem but then it plays the show intro that most people skip because they’ve already seen, and it plays an ad after the intro so technically there’s ads right on top of each other. So basically the app would be nice if you paid to get rid of ads. Computer experience is different from the phone experience because it’s not as confusing unless you close the tab and have to go onto the website all over again which like I said before it makes you re watch the ads. But other than that it’s better to use the app/website on a computer rather than using your phone. Sorry if I wasn’t helpful, I tried to explain it as much as I could.

Great app but

This is a great app. It has a great user interface and has a lot of different animes! I mostly came here for dragon ball because it has it dubbed. It’s very nice to watch just there is one problem, ads. I load up an episode, ad (30 seconds so far) I skip past the intro, 6 30 second ads(210 seconds). I get about halfway, 6 30 second ads(390 seconds). 6/8 through, 5 30 second ads(540 seconds). And when the episode is about to be over, 6 more 30 second ads. In total that is 720 seconds of ads which is 12 minutes. So the average episode is 20 minutes. So I spend more than half the length of the episode watching ads. There are two ways to get around it. Subscription or ad blocker. If your on your phone I suggest using a laptop or pc. If your on a laptop or pc download an adblocker because the amount of ads you get is crazy.

Better than I remember it but still not great

I remember trying to watch something on this app years ago and giving up not even halfway through the first episode because I was frustrated with the UI. The UI has most certainly gotten better but now a different issue frustrated me and made me stop watching not even halfway through episode 1. Look I understand if you want to watch stuff for free you gotta put up with ads. I am broke and am usually fully willing to put up with ad-breaks if it means I can watch stuff for free. But I feel like this app takes it to the next level. It felt like every 5 minutes I’d be hit with a 6 ad ad-break. Maybe I’d be able to put up with it if it was 6 ads every 10 minutes or 2 ads every 5 minutes. The thing that really annoyed me was that the ads were literally the same exact ad playing 6 times every ad-break. Hearing the same ad on loop got on my nerves and annoyed me so much I had to stop watching. There was even one point where an ad played OVER the audio for the show without pausing the show and when the ad ended I was watching a minute ahead of where the ad break started.

Like I said I’m usually okay with ads (I understand they still need to make money off my freeloading) but I feel like this app just made it far too obnoxious and nearly impossible to enjoy watching anything.

Was a good app

Overall, it is a great place to get your anime. Few glitches here and there which are to be expected. It’s free or you can pay for the upgraded version. However, they have now added commercials to episodes… they have always had one in the beginning but now there are 3 different sets throughout the episode. But that does not mean 3 commercials no there can be up to 6 30 second commercials and they can literally be all the same… talk about annoying. I had 3 of the same ones, then 1 different and then 2 more of the first one. Really?! Come on now, that’s a little ridiculous.

I pay for the premium plus subscription so I can watch everything. Why am I paying to watch commercials? I understand if the free accounts have this but the premium plus? Any other film app either doesn’t have any commercials or does the one commercial at the start if you are paying a subscription.

This has bothered me for awhile now. When I started using this app I enjoyed it. Finally a place to get to watch all the anime you want. But with this change, adding all these commercials to paying customer is starting to change my mind. I feel like they went from caring about customer experience to more about the money.

Great before, but recently… there has been an issue.

Everything before a few days before this review was posted, was great. I’m not necessarily saying that it’s not great now, but there has been an issue as of late. Whenever I start an episode the advertisement in the beginning never loads, and never automatically goes away. I’m not a premium member, and upgrading would seem to be a simple solution, but I’m not sure I’d want to purchase a subscription right now. The selection of anime is still impressive and is comparable to many other large anime streaming services, but with the advertisements not loading correctly, it basically renders the app useless unless you pay the subscription for premium. The app itself is still good, but this only goes to show that one small problem can ruin something for what it is.

Edit: Truth be told, I’ve been looking for reasons to switch to Crunchyroll anyways lately, because of its expansive library of anime, and ease of access to most features in its menu/Home Screen format.

Okay when it works, terrible otherwise.

I’ve been using this app for a couple months and about the only thing it has going for it is the library; you have a vast catalog of shows to choose from and that’s great. What’s not great is the fact that I frequently find myself having to close and reopen the app to POTENTIALLY get to watch a singular episode because of how completely broken the ads are. I have literally spent more time watching ads than I have a show before because the app will get stuck trying to load more ads halfway through the episode leaving me with no other option but to close and reopen the app, sit through a barrage of ads just to get back to where I was in the episode, to then run into the same issue that made me close the app in the first place. Some days the app will actually work but other days I’m caught in this insufferable loop that leaves me beyond frustrated. I would love to continue using the app but it’s hardly worth my time if all I’m actually going to be using is an app that’s a advertisement marathon in disguise.

A fallen beacon

I’ve had Funimation for a few years now and have loved using their services as they offered higher quality videos, better audio quality and a superior selection of anime than their competitors at Crunchyroll. However, they pretty much sold themselves out to crunchyroll for an easy extra dollar. Their app on all platforms has become unreliable as it struggles to load the anime you want to watch. The visuals can take several minutes to fully load in and while you wait for it to load, it continues to play in the background with zero response to any button presses. It won’t pause, rewind, fast forward, it won’t even respond to me trying to close the app. It cause both my iPhone and Roku TV to crash regularly for zero reason. Further more, they’ve introduced ads promoting Crunchyroll, even on the Premium accounts, which they advertise as “Ad Free” by the way.
All in all, Funimation has become a joke of a streaming service and an unreliable supplier of legally obtained dubbed anime tv series and movies. They are sellouts and aiding Crunchyroll with creating a monopoly over the American anime market.

Great when it works and not just buffering…

As per the title, you can already guess where this is going. I think I’ve spent more time buffering and waiting for videos to start rather than actually watching them. The app structure, UI, layout, etc is all designed really well. However, streaming to the iPad has increasingly become useless across both 4g and 5g connections. I’ve tried both repeatedly, in the same room as the modem as well. I don’t know what’s happened to the servers, it does seem like this issue has only gotten worse and worse. Perhaps it may have something to do with the news about Funimation and Crunchyroll? Whatever it is… please fix it. I I know it’s not my connection, as all other streaming apps work perfectly by comparison, even at full resolution streaming. Or if there’s a way to clear the cache or refresh other flushing functionality to get this app working properly again.

Thanks
