A Game Store That Doesn’t Have New Games

For a company literally called GameStop, it is incredibly frustrating how difficult it is to actually buy a brand-new game from them.

A new game comes out, I open the app ready to give GameStop my money, and it simply says “Not Available.” Okay, so when will it be available? Can I order it for when more copies arrive? Can I join a waitlist? Can I get an in-stock notification? Apparently not. I’m basically just supposed to keep checking the app and hope.

Going into the physical stores isn’t much better. New releases regularly aren’t available because stores seem to receive extremely limited quantities, sometimes seemingly only enough to fulfill preorders. This isn’t just my experience either. GameStop customers and even employees online have complained about stores receiving only preorder quantities or just one or two extra copies of new releases.

That completely defeats the purpose of a dedicated video game retailer. If I walk into a store called GameStop during the launch week of a new game, buying that game shouldn’t feel like hunting down a rare collectible.

The most frustrating part is that I actually WANT to buy physical games from GameStop. But if GameStop doesn’t stock the games, doesn’t let me backorder them, and doesn’t give me a useful way to know when they’re coming back, eventually I’m just going to buy the game digitally or from another retailer.

The app desperately needs proper backordering, waitlists, restock notifications, and better information about incoming inventory. And GameStop stores need enough launch inventory that walking in to buy a new video game is actually a realistic option.

GameStop shouldn’t be one of the hardest places to stop and buy a game.

Terrible

Forces you to turn on notifications then doesn’t even work. Horrible.

It’s alright.

The app would be way better if you could see your current in store pre-orders on it.

Soon to be Funko only!

Made a purchase and within an hour I realized they had it in stock and purchased in-store rather than paying their ridiculous shipping fee fees and Up sale. After being able to secure the product in store, I tried to cancel on their app. Wasn’t really an option so I decided to email support. Also, this was on a Sunday and the Monday was a holiday despite being within an hour of order they would not let me cancel, gave me The runaround and then told me I’ll be able to exchange it once I got the package later being followed up with a sorry you would not be able to exchange that. All and all GameStop has been a joke for years, ruining hobbies by upsell, even though they are a retail store. I’m bummed that most consoles now are gonna be digital but on the plus side I hope it puts you guys out of business. Have fun selling Funko pops!!! Haaaaaaa won’t ever be back!!!!
