Response from developer

Dear Customer, sorry for the inconvenience caused, since there is an compatibility issue in iPhone 12 later iPhone, we recommend using a USB hub between the vehicle and the USB cable, which can make connection more stable. (The vehicle => USB hub => USB cable => smartphone) If you have any other problems please contact us through the email address (aoem.service@garmin.com), thank you!

I tried to be patient…

Hey developers, have you ever tried using this kind of application yourself? First of all, the wireless connection is almost not working. Second, I used a cable to fix the issue, but it worked a few minutes after the connection error. I have to close the application on my phone and try again. In a few minutes, the same. It's a junk app, a product of the lowest quality I've ever seen, and it's the biggest disappointment.

Ok, today I decided to start over, and give another chance. My friend sent me address in message, which I easily can click and open in any map or navigation except Garmin.
Well, sometime happening…, maybe it is to complicated. I think what else I copy address and paste in address field!? Guess what happened?????
You are right, nothing, it is impossible!!

Tell why! Tell us how in 2024 you could develop such junky app?!?! Maybe it is the time to change something?

Actually works.

I have a Garmin Zumo XT.

And this is exactly as that. (Familiar feel to it)

For it to work first time this is what I did.
On my 2024 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ and iPhone 15 pro max.

1. Connect phone Bluetooth to the Bike. Bike Bluetooth can be accessed from App- settings.
2. Open My Ride Link app on phone and add the bike again (Bluetooth.). You will need to click the My ride link section in settings of bike. ( follow on bike instructions) Can be accessed via App-settings-connections.
3. In App- Settings of Bike. Connect to bike WiFi hotspot. This has to be done only once. Make sure in your WiFi settings on the phone you select auto connect. Sometimes even if you enter the right password it says wrong password entered. Just click cancel and click join. It will connect.
4. On My Ride Link app click Garmin Motorize at the bottom.
5. It will ask you to download Garmin Motorize app.
6. Download the app.
7. Open it follow on screen instructions, select subscription and the. You get message “Connect to bike via usb cable to validate/authorise”
8. Make sure you use a good quality data cable. A cheap one will not work as most cheap ones are just charging cable and not data transfer cable.
9. Once cable connected. App immediately recognises the device and the app is activated.
10. Cable can now be disconnected. You only need to use it once.
11. Long press the home button and the maps open.

Remember the Bluetooth module on the bike starts quickly but the WiFi module takes couple of minutes.

So far worked flawlessly.

It’s £550 for the Zumo XT2. And £33 per year for this app. I think it’s a good deal.

Terrible App

The app is probably the worst I’ve seen from a major company. Whose kid wrote this? Can’t even download a map. Come on Garmin, do you want to make money or not?

Pointless, get a quadlock

Ridiculous unintuitive and almost pointless.

Poor Navigation

I agree this app is garbage.

After planning a loop route, the app insisted on routing me directly to the end, ignoring all waypoints. Frustrating!

Response from developer

Dear Customer, sorry for the inconvenience caused, Due to system limitations, we recommend that you slightly shift the location of the end point from the starting point, such as adjusting the longitude and latitude, or moving a little away from the map. If you have any other problems please contact us through the email address (aoem.service@garmin.com), thank you!

Worst navigation app I ever tried

Disconnect very frequently while your driving so it's useless

Horrible.

So clunky to use. Pretty much impossible to set a route you want to go on. Can’t understand why it’s so poor in 2024.

Cancel subscription

Works fine but sold my bike now and can’t see how to cancel the subscription

Garmin wants to believe everyone stupid

Expensive subscription, unreliable connection, slow and difficult navigation. Reading Garmin’s answers they believe that everything is user error or usb cable issue. One day it works okay, next day it won’t connect at all via wifi. Pointless to pay for it when google maps and apple maps are free and reliable. Garmin was great ones but it is the last on the list now. Wouldn’t use it even for free anymore. Carplay would make more sense on an expensive motorbike

Disappointing

This app is garbage. There is no way around, I would spend the whole day writing a more constructive review but I feel like it would be in vain. I don’t understand how someone can use this. Got it to pair to my Tracer 9 GT+ and it’s ridiculously slow. I would go back to paper maps before ever giving Garmin a try again.

Doesn’t work with iPhone 15

I tried SIX different USB-A to USB-C leads but could not connect the phone to the bike to authenticate. Please update the app to work with latest iPhones !!!

Very poor app

Connection is absolutely terrible, difficult to set a route, don’t know if I am using it incorrect but to me a complete and utter waste of money. Sort this very poor app out. Back to the bar mounter TomTom rider 550 for me.

Will not set up!

Literally spent hours trying to set this up on a brand new TMax, just will not set up, even the bike shop can get it connected. Very disappointing one of the reasons I bought the bike.

Garmin Motorize for Yamaha Tmax Tech Max

Doesn’t work! You can’t enter a postcode on fly or on bike keyborad doesn’t pop up, had it 6months could never get it to connect to sena headset, every time you stop bike it disconnects. After contacting Garmin help there not really interested. Total waste of money for subscription. Back to using Tom Tom on handlebars.

Works well once you add a USB hub!

Huge thanks to Garmin Support for their help in getting this to work reliably with my 2023 Yamaha TMAX Tech Max! When using a newer and larger smartphone like the Apple 14 Pro, you might find that navigation and other functions keep disconnecting after about 30 seconds when using a cable to connect your phone to the TMAX. If you use wireless mirroring there is no problem.

Garmin advised that if you add a small USB hub in between the TMAX USB port and your phone then the connection will not drop out and it works! The phone also charges which is great 😊

I hope that Yamaha are aware of this issue and provide a proper fix for their TMAX customers please 🙏

Goods and Bads

Good side it’s great having at Sat Nav to compliment the Tmax Tech 560 for a enjoyable ride showing all details on your screen
Bad side a nightmare to setup and not the cheapest google maps free of charge but only talks through your headset
Worth the free trial then think about alternatives

Rubbish don’t waste your money.

They need to sort out the connection issues. Takes quite a while to get it to connect to the bike then if you stop and turn the bike off you have to go through it all again. If it connected easily this would be a great app.

Totally broken and unusable

Update: After properly testing it past few weeks it’s a disaster and completely unusable. It will crash after max 30min of use and then every 30 seconds. It’s a massive headache to get started having to manually start the app and accept terms then plug it in sequence then start other apps and run in background 24/7 it’s just a nightmare and I’ll have to try get subscription refunded it’s just that bad. Trying to plan a route of just 3 stops forget it ! UX is horribly bad from the 90s and just broken in almost every way. It’s the only app that can be used with the TMax so I feel a few law suits coming their way for such a premium product Yamaha absolutely dropped the ball on this one there is really nothing that works every feature is broken every workaround is broke can’t see them fixing this Garmin also has a poor track record and virtually no customer service. Hope this review can help someone

Overall it worked pretty well on my TMax setup with fairly straightforward however I cannot get it to work on wifi only seems like a bug so have to plug it in. Main issue is entering your destination is clumsy to downright horrible, nearly impossible while on the bike which is kind of the point! Can’t recognise any place names have to google the address first then enter it in by street number then suburb etc what a mess. A bug I found already is if you go into set your destination then go out and come back a second time you loose all the options only way to enter an address is to take phone out unplug kill the app restart and then it works. Atleast while navigating it did work fairly well, most things on this and the new TMax is somewhat rushed I can understand so I just hope they keep releasing updates and listen to us as it’s an expensive machine and app.
