Genius Jamtracks User Reviews

Now requires mandatory login

Former standalone use is now prohibited. Bought this app without mandatory data sharing. This is made worse, as a previous e-mail exchange lead to doubts wether the author knows or cares, what data protection really means. Please add an opt-out to the login-screen!

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. This update introduced device sync and backup. It was one of the most requested features and is now available. We have been very clear about this change in the app description, onboarding flow, and app update notes. A few clarifications because parts of this review are inaccurate: • Email signup is required only for syncing and backup across your own devices. • No additional personal data is required beyond basic login information. • No user data is shared with third parties. We take privacy seriously. At this time, we are not planning to add a bypass for the login flow, since sync and backup are now part of the core app experience.

Very Good

Great sounding
Sounds a lot better than iReal

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback and the stars! 🙏

Does what it says on the tin… very, very well

Your very own trio, covering most Jazz Standards and with the breadth of choice growing all the time. The App Store description is spot on, and it will run on Tahoe, too.
The developer responds personally to clearly described bugs and, in my case, fixes them within days… wow!
Find the standard you need, set your tempo, tweak the feel to your liking, and tweak the balance of the ensemble; all that within a few seconds. Then get on with learning the tune and practising your improvisation - the stuff you really need to be doing!
Thank you Antonis, you’ve helped me make progress, big time!

Mandatory Login? No Thanks

Was good now I just deleted it, back to IReal Pro no login hassles required.

Update broke some things

Several songs won’t play audio since this update. I thought it was just when I searched for a song but I’ve discovered that there are just random songs that no longer work.

Response from developer

Thanks for the heads-up. That’s an easy fix on our side, we just need to know which song titles are affected. Please contact us at support@geniusjamtracks.com and include the song names. Once we have that, it literally takes a moment to sort out.

Too many bugs

I upgraded recently but I’ve experienced nothing but trouble since. It takes ages to load and when I do get to the song I want and press on it, it often sends me back to the main library. Very frustrating.

Response from developer

What you’re experiencing is not a bug. Please contact us at support@geniusjamtracks.com and we’ll guide you right away.

Developer Says No Subscription Coming

Correspondence from developer promises: NO SUBSCRIPTION coming after recent update. Seems shortsighted not to have include this in the updated App Store info. FYI, you can no longer access app until you give them your email and create an account. Update looks like a mostly polished GUI song browsing update, I’m not inherently seeing the reason for the necessary account creation. Will wait and see.

Response from developer

Thanks for updating the review, we genuinely appreciate it. Just to clarify a couple of points for anyone reading: the information you mention was already communicated in the app. On first launch after the update, there is a clearly visible “IMPORTANT UPDATE” notice explaining why account creation is now required. It’s understandable to skip past it quickly, but the information is there. The account wasn’t added for a UI refresh. It enables new functionality such as syncing your library across devices, sharing songs and playlists, and restoring your work if you change or lose a device. That’s the real value of it. For example, if your phone is lost or replaced, you simply log in again and all your songs and playlists are still there. We understand the hesitation, and it’s totally fair to wait and see. Now that you have the full picture, feel free to update the review if your experience reflects it.

Bummer

Like the old version better, don’t want to give y’all my email to use the app. Bummer, since I already paid for the app - oh well .

Response from developer

We understand the hesitation, but the account is required to support the new features. It’s not used for anything else, and we don’t collect or share personal data. There’s really no reason to worry about using your email. The account exists for your benefit, not ours. It enables syncing your library across devices, sharing songs and playlists, and restoring your work if you change or lose a device. For example, if your phone is lost or replaced, you simply log in again and all your songs and playlists are still there. Calling this a “bummer” doesn’t really reflect what we’re offering to our users or the value these features bring. Now that you have the full context, we’d appreciate it if you considered updating your review to reflect your actual experience with the app. If you’d like more information or have any concerns, feel free to contact us at support@geniusjamtracks.com.

New update… account creation… Uh Oh

I smell a subscription coming….

Response from developer

You’re rating the app based on a guess. We do understand your concern, though. To clarify things plainly: you paid once, you’re using the app, and there is NO subscription being introduced. Now that you have this clarification from our side, we kindly ask you to consider updating or removing your review so it reflects your actual experience with the app. App reviews are meant to be based on real, hands-on use, so other users can learn something useful from them, not hypothetical concerns. As it stands, this one-star review feels more like a preemptive judgment, which isn’t really fair.

Walking bass on swing tunes does not sound natural

I recently purchased this app and I have yet to hear a bass part that sounds natural. So far I have listened to the bass part in swing and bossy nova styles and the bass part does not sound natural. In this respect Genius Jamtrack is no match for IReal Pro.

ファイルのバックアップが出来ない?

iRealProのようにファイルのバックアップが出来ない…SaveとLoadが出来ないので非常に不便を感じる

Unstable!

Interesting App, but I keeps crashing! It does this regularly during practice. Last time I used it was during a garden party, in front of guests, and suddenly it just crashed while streaming through my sound system! Very embarrassing!! I will revert to my trusted alternatives which are way more stable.

Response from developer

Sorry to hear about the crash. Just to clarify — the app has a rating above 4.7⭐️ in most countries, and we monitor live crash reports from all devices. We’ve only seen a few isolated cases in the past year, none of which were caused by the app itself. If something ever goes wrong, we’re always happy to help. There’s a contact button in the app and support available on our website — reaching out before the party might’ve saved the moment 😉

Great but

Great app, much better sound and comp than the classical backtrack app. I would have given a 5 star if it did not miss a major feature: we can’t share a song that we wrote - neither between my iPhone and my iPad, or with friends. That could be a show stopper if you want to write lots of songs! Is that going to fixed soon?

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback and the stars! 🙏 That feature is actually already in. You can now share songs between devices and with others. The app has had many improvements and additions since your review, so feel free to complete the 5-star collection 😊

Wonderful App

I have enjoyed using Genius Jamtracks. It is super useful for writing and arranging as well as playing through standard tunes.

Very Bad Sound and Swing

I bought it to avoid the monotonous sound of iReal but guess what- it sounds worse and the swing is just unusable! If you’re a serious jazz musician you’ll hear it immediately. The only thing it’s offering is some sort of polyrhythm from the rhythm section which also sounds very unmusical. A total waste of 20Euro. Their strong marketing policy led me to buy it I guess.

Wow!

Best app for jazz singers

Awesome

Finalmente , era veramente pesante studiare con i real . Ora con Genius e’ tutta in altra storia

Very limited

I thought I’d see how this app performs when making a standard 12 bar blues progression when I quickly realized non of the playing styles were suitable. The main problem was the built in the bass lines. They were just terrible and uninspiring non really fit the blues. The drum rolls were not much better. I went straight back to iReal Pro. If you call yourself “genius” then deliver on your promise. This is ONLY for narrow range of jazz styles. It’s a shame you didn’t develop this further. Just get iReal Pro. So much better than this “genius” solution.

No reimbursement by Apple store! - Great assistance

I bought the app and immediately found out it did not suit my purposes. So I asked Apple store for reimbursement. It was refused twice. […]

Thank you, Antonis, for your caring assistance while trying to solve the problem and also offering further technical help!
My apologies for any inconveniences I may have caused by using this channel for issues with Apple store.
