A buggy app that is supposed to open your apartment door
Some details:
1. The app stalls often and won’t fully load.
2. The app’s “Slide to access your key”, which is the digital key, often doesn’t load. When it does load, which is the majority of the time, often it doesn’t open the door on the first try.
3. Community groups are often missing.
4. Links get blocked.
5. They delete messages.
6. There’s a moderator, which in and of itself is odd, but that moderator has no ability to actually help you get into your apartment when the App doesn’t work. Instead, they’ll tell you to close the app and re-open it, or to uninstall and re-install. Sadly, neither of those actually work to fix the problem.
7. If you eventually get fed up with the lockouts and demand some accountability, and ask them to ensure you can gain access to your home 100% of the time, they tell you the app is “working as intended” or “fully operational” or “fully functional”.
8. And if you ask too often, they block you from communicating!
I suppose they have to since their investors have dropped over $100 million dollars into this application that’s built for monitoring you and for “optimizing loyalty and revenue”… because that’s what tenants want… landlords knowing when we enter our apartments, and nickel and dime-ing us for things like pool access, lounge access, roof access. How about you give me a regular old metal key. That’ll work just fine.
9. Their “algorithm”, “detects patterns and serves up suggestions to boost resident happiness and fatten your bottom line”. You can’t make this stuff up.
They’ve got a REALLY good marketing and design team. I mean the website is stunning, so I can totally understand why property managers would want to partner, but guess what, the app does not work and just annoys the heck out of residents, like me, and many others in my building…
