About

GRIDCON shows Ireland's electricity grid as a car dashboard, live and at a glance, in bright plasma colour. Twin gauges read system frequency and demand. Warning lights come on when wind passes 40 percent of generation, when the island starts importing power, when SNSP passes 70 percent and when carbon climbs. A spinning wind turbine and a glowing sun show what the weather is giving the grid at this moment. Every figure is real. GRIDCON reads EirGrid's Smart Grid Dashboard for the whole island, the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. DASH Everything at a glance. Frequency and demand gauges, the renewables pod, supply gauges for wind, solar, SNSP and carbon, live interconnector flows, and a countdown to the next update. FREQUENCY The balance of supply and demand, second by second. The last fifteen minutes of system frequency at five-second resolution, with the deviation from 50 Hz and the highs and lows of the window. SUPPLY Wind and solar output against EirGrid's forecasts, each one's share of generation and today's peaks. SNSP through the day, and the fuel mix behind it. DEMAND What the island is drawing, against yesterday and against the forecast for the rest of the day. Carbon intensity against its forecast, with the cleanest time ahead to run the washing machine or charge the car. MARKET A live chart of the Irish Sea, with power pulsing along EWIC, Greenlink and Moyle in the direction it flows. Each cable's flow against its capacity, and the imbalance settlement price for every half hour. BUILT FOR EVERY SCREEN GRIDCON runs on iPhone, on iPad in every orientation, and on both displays of iPhone Duo. Reduce Motion stills every needle, light and pulse. KIND TO THE GRID GRIDCON asks EirGrid only for figures that are due to have changed, one request at a time, and keeps everything it has between launches. It opens on the last figures it fetched and never hammers the feed. Pull down on the Dash to check for anything newer. No account. No ads. No tracking. Supported by EirGrid Group Data. GRIDCON is not affiliated with EirGrid.

What's New in GRIDCON

2.0

October 22, 2026

GRIDCON 2.0 Rebuilt from nothing. GRIDCON is now an instrument cluster for Ireland's electricity grid. Twin gauges read system frequency and demand, warning lights come on as wind climbs, imports start or carbon rises, and a spinning turbine and a glowing sun show what the weather is giving the grid right now. New in this version are wind and solar against their forecasts, demand against yesterday and the forecast for the rest of the day, carbon intensity with the cleanest time ahead, the fuel mix, SNSP, the imbalance price, and a live chart of the Irish Sea with power pulsing along EWIC, Greenlink and Moyle. GRIDCON is designed for iPad, with its panels side by side in every orientation, and for both displays of iPhone Duo. It also refreshes more considerately. Each figure is fetched only when EirGrid is due to publish a newer one, and a countdown shows when the next update will arrive.
