Doesn’t work anymore
I used HanBook for a few years and it was the best, until I started paying for it a few months ago. Now, as of June 5, 2025, it doesn’t work, at all. Did the owners die? Did tech support quit? Can I get my money back?

My paid-for app just stopped working!
This has been the best app ever to learn Chinese. One day ago, for some reason, it just stopped working. When I try to log in the app says “there is a strong request.” It then tells me ‘there is a problem with your network configuration.” There is no problem with my network—everything else works just fine including all other apps! The problem is with the app! I have the same problem on all my other devices only when using this app. There is no way to get support to the company to report the problem. PLEASE FIX THE APP!

Generally I think it’s good but…. I’m kinda broke can we just have the lessons for free. I really like learning 中文 very very much can the Hànbook team make it free I would be eternally grateful!, I really want to go to Wuhan, Shanghai and Beijing China and speak Mandarin to the people. Please I beg you in the bottom of my heart make it free🥺🥺🥺

Took the money then run
I paid for a 12 month subscription and after 5 months the paid access stopped. Have emailed and contacted via their website. But have never received a response. Take your money elsewhere, this app is no longer legitimate for a paid subscription.
Poor voice recognition
I’ve had this app for a short while now and for some reason even when I shout, it asks me to speak louder. Please resolve this issue. I’ve paid for this app due to its good reviews and high rating, but at this moment, I wouldn’t recommend it.

A great app!
This app is one of the best I have used for learning Chinese. The UI is easy to navigate and I love that it uses real voices rather than a robot.
I do wish there were more than three levels though.

Love it but one major disappointment
I love the way this app throws so many different things to do at you it never gets boring. The video lessons that make you feel like you are there in the conversation are my favorite. It’s great that they are in authentic native settings speaking to real native speakers. I like the flash card feature too. However, I’m very, very disappointed that the app does not render natively on iPad, especially with all of these wonderful visuals. I have a visual impairment and it’s harder to study on my phone. This is an accessibility issue so I hope you will work on an iPad version. Finally, I really wish there were a lifetime subscription option. A lot of competing apps do have that option now. I would have given 5 stars if this worked natively full-screen on iPad.

No Traditional support
The lessons and vast amounts of features are great but as a solely traditional learner It’s disheartening to see this potential go to waste for people like myself.

Do u know your ocr has not worked for quite some time? It’s truly one of best features as I can take pic or point to words & get them translated very quickly. But suddenly not responsive at all. Can u tell us what’s happened?

Best App Ever
This is the most comprehensive App I’ve ever seen. It has everything you need to learn Chinese. It has in-depth examples of words and uses, how to write and practice Chinese Characters, practice speaking and playback to hear yourself, HSK books, Flashcards. It has everything. I haven’t signed up for private tutor but it is available. I’m extremely impressed with this App. It’s probably a good resource for native speakers as well. Xie xie !!!!!

Makes you feel confident
First 30-45min and I enjoyed it! There’s everything, words, vocabs, pronunciation check, a game, and what seems like, live lessons. Glad that the audio is not-so-robot like voice. I’ve been study Chinese for some time on my own and I think this app is great for self-studying people, those who take courses online or on campus. Only thing I didn’t know was that once signing up, you automatically start the VIP account. It’s nothing bad, but was hoping to use it later. Give it a try, it’s fun and it’s free!

Progress has occurred
This application has definitely been a great help. I have become a little more confident because the pronunciation feedback is amazing. This app gives immediate feedback, and it allows for me to view videos to assist with speaking and writing. One of my goals was to learn and recognize the characters. This help has helped with both the recognition for context spelling as well as improved my confidence in writing the characters. Although I’m not fully there, I’m definitely seeing the progress and feeling more confident. I look forward to putting my knowledge into practice.
