User reviews

Private but needs more functionality

Our family used LIFE360 out of necessity but then sadly discovered their horrible record regarding privacy. We trialed HeyPolo and found the following: Although locations are unlimited, you can only set alerts for four places per person. This was an issue for us as each of us have more than four places that need alerts. Secondly, the blue location indicator on iPhones stays lit for a good amount of time. Young family members found this concerning and too invasive. They know their location is being used all the time but they don’t want to be reminded of it so much. The location indicator stayed on so much that it became meaningless to them as they could not tell if something else nefarious was tracking them. Third, HeyPolo does not show the battery status of family members. In Life360, you could see the low battery and then adjust your expectations if the app showed them stuck, etc. We could assume dead battery after seeing low battery status. Now in HeyPolo, that lack of info won’t help when location fails. Fourth, each member has to open HeyPolo every day or so to remain active. Even with the two recommended location settings turned on, those family members that did not open the app would just stall and never show an updated location. Not useful for us at all!
The good news is that HeyPolo, does NOT waste space and effort providing silly comments you can send each other. They don’t have ads. They don’t deem a drive safe or unsafe. (That also means they don’t erroneously detect a passenger’s phone use as a dangerous drive like Life360 does.) They claim that they don’t sell your data. I am hopeful about HeyPolo but just need some more functionality to make it more useful for families.

Response from developer

Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback! We'd like to clarify a few points you've made. HeyPolo supports more than 4 place alerts person. Instead of showing battery level, the app sends low battery alerts that inform other people when the battery level drops to around 20%. As for the blue location indicator - we're working on reducing when it is shown. We would gladly investigate the issues you had with location tracking while the app was working in the background and hear your thoughts on how to improve HeyPolo in general. Could you contact us directly at max@heypolo.com? We would really appreciate that.

Please add exceptions like on android!

Not free

They ask upfront fee. Can’t use the app for free at all.

Great app!

Use it with my family for a month now. Highly recommend it!

No Exceptions

Doesn’t have “Exceptions” like their Android app does
