chart is lagging :<

im sorry but i try to make a chart or add a note or stuff, BUT IT BUG OR LAG THE WHOLE CHART MAKER!!! im not sure if its my ipad lagging but even the gameplay, minigame, OR THE MV WORKING SMOOTHLY! the game is good, i ap every song except boss songs and I WANT TO MAKE A CHART PLSS!

Infuriating experience

Gacha:
No 50/50, 200 pity, 16 limited unit in a month and a half, and only having the equivalent of 20-30 pulls per update is a miserable experience.

Main game:
It’s fine, but some charts add what I call “BS notes”, where they don’t really exist in the song itself but were added to make the chart more difficult, or some notes switching from vocal to instrumental randomly. Half the charts are decent, the other half really need some overhaul.

Minigame:
Half of them are more gambling, which are infuriating to play with but you need to play them everyday for materials to level up. Especially with this boring card game, where unless you want to replay and waste token hundreds of times, you’d have to win 7 times in a row to get max rewards, 3 separate times. It’s not hard or fun, just tedious daily grinding. The other half is generic enough they’re just fine, except jump rope where the button only works half of the time, and the switch between Pekora and Marine beyond 100 will almost always end in a loss.

Event:
They have an event every two weeks or so, and each comes with 2-5 limited units in a single banner. New songs for the rate up units, and the old school “use the new unit to get more points” system to entice the tryhards to pull. This might be a conspiracy but I’ve been getting tons of triple or even quadruple 5 stars in a 10 pull when the game launched, but the last 3 limited banner has all been miserable to pull on where I don’t even get a single limited in 150+ pulls every single time. That’s one out of 5 by the way, that’s insanity.

A Case of Hauntology

This isn’t a bad game per se. The rhythm game is of good quality and the ability to create your own maps is very nice for such a game. And it’s clear a lot of love was put into the hub worlds and minigames. The problem with hololive Dreams is a lack of identity or future. On the identity end, the game really feels like it doesn’t want to be a rhythm game. The gatcha only exists for the rhythm game, but with how long it takes to go through the chapters and the amount and necessity of (for leveling up locations) minigames, it feels like they want you to touch the rhythm game as little as neccessary. And the amount of love put into the minigames just circles around to the question of why this is a rhythm game to begin with. The other problem is that as an official hololive game, not just a fan game, it is bound to the contracts of the vtubers. As such any acknowledgement of a past talent doesnt feel like a loving reminder, but a ghost of what used to be. This is especially heavy when in comparison to who doesn’t appear at all, those whose history is erased given they left before modern graduations allowed the space for cameo work. And you feel this in the available songs. Talents who are no longer with hololive are not noted as singers for certain songs, and their original works dont show up at all. Really the fact that these are real vtubers also messes with the rhythm game aspect in that they cant tell real overarching stories, as these arent characters and more an imagining of real people. I am curious to see what will occur when another vtuber inevitably graduates, or even is terminated. How will this already haunted game face such a reality? Either way unless you really want another rhythm game, this probably isnt worth it.

Absolutely horrific gacha system

The rhythm game part is good, nothing to complain about. The minigames except for Mega Circuit are all fun to play.

But the gacha and gacha event banners are the most predatory garbage I’ve seen in a while. From launch until now there have been 16 new event cards. Pray these are not your favorite characters because I see people just casually dropping up to 400 just to get it once.

There’s often a separate banner where you can select one of the event cards to get a higher drop rate on it. The drop rate becomes 1% and you’ll most likely just get different cards you’re not even pulling for.

There is a pity system where you have to rack up 200 pulls to get a selection screen where you can just pick the character you want. But you have to spend 50.000 gems before that. Most expensive deal in the shop gives you 8.200.

You’re not gonna get a lot of free pulls you’ll see other gacha games advertise a lot either. They have enough people willing to fork over large amounts of money anyway.

My brain might not have melted enough because I usually avoid gacha games like the plague just for this reason.

I’ve been a fan of Hololive since the end of 2019, and I like a lot of the members but exactly that is what annoys me the most because they hold that against you to get as much money as possible.
