Too much packaging
I realize I should have expected this, as I’ve tried other meal kits before, but I cannot justify the packaging. There are 3 frozen gel packs, which they say to cut open and pour into the trash in order to recycle the bag it came in. What is the point? I don’t want a horrible mess in the trash can, so it’ll have to go into a bag anyway. Also, every ingredient in the oven ready meals is bagged separately , and there’s just SO much packaging! The meal kits use a little less packaging, but with those, I still need to do all the cutting and cooking, so… All this to avoid going to the grocery store, but the reality is, I have to go anyway for all the other stuff I eat for other meals/snacks. So this is pointless for me. I know how to shop and cook. On top of all that, the cancel process is not straightforward. You have to cancel in the app, then they send you an email with a link to confirm that you want to cancel, then they still won’t cancel it until week later, so you have to make sure to skip deliveries until they do. Jumping through hoops, and they are hoping people miss a step and they’ll send you another box.

Excellent quality, good selection, tasty meals, reasonably priced
Title says it all! We are new to meal kit delivery, and started with a different company. Had a very bad experience with the other service and were nervous to try another company, but the convenience is hard to beat. So far we are very happy with the switch! There are not quite as many options with Home Chef and the recipes didn’t sound as good as the other service, but so far they have been better! Very satisfied!

Home chef meals
Meals are truly really good tasty meals. Never thought they would be this good. Prices are very reasonable and cheaper than buying all ingredients.
Home Chef NEVER disappoints me!!
I love love love this service. The meats and vegetables are always fresh, top shelf. We’ve been using Home Chef for almost a year and they have yet to disappoint me!! :)
Taste and Quality
I love Home Chef. The meals are top-notch, restaurant quality, and delicious; but, some of the vegetables are unusable (i.e. tomato, zucchini, onion)

foods good and recipes are simple but they use so much plastic, about half my orders had at least a couple ingredients rotting upon arrival, and the price per portion makes no economic sense. a chicken breast and a couple veggies doesn't cost 10 dollars anywhere and you're the one doing the labor. might as well eat out

Not the greatest
Not happy with food I received, rotted food, soft and mushy vegetables. And FedEx is the worst delivery service. UPS is a much better company.
HORRIBLE customer service
I placed an order in January and found that Home Chef did not fit my needs. 6 months later they charged me without notice or consent because I didn’t “properly” cancel my subscription 6 months ago. Customer service did nothing to help credit any of my money back and blamed me (the customer) for what happened. Absolutely disgusted with their customer service.

Scammy business
Despite cancelling IMMEDIATELY after seeing the meal options, this company charged me $110 and sent food anyway. Will not issue a refund, but a discount for a FUTURE box. Apparently they send an email saying you’re still going to be charged.. but if I cancelled, why? Scam.
Great food
I came back because I needed a change and tired of trying to plan meals. Going low carb this time. Great meals, delivery and customer service.
Better than homemade
Such fresh ingredients cooked to perfection at first we thought too expensive but compared we are saving money and no waste plus we love the food it’s cooked to perfection so tasty we are hooked
Very poor service
We started Home Chef with high hopes. Unfortunately their Achilles heel is delivery. It might be common sense too. Living in Phoenix where the summers are very hot I would have thought this would be taken into account. They allow ALL DAY to the drivers to deliver the box of food. There is NO DELIVERY WINDOW with this service. The final straw for us was a delivery at 10:40pm. We literally sat around ALL DAY missing a movie we paid for waiting for the delivery.
The box was delivered at 10:40pm and was soaked through and broken open. The ice packs were no longer cold. I sent photos and an opening video to customer service. They didn’t care the food (3 chicken dishes) was probably spoiled and only refunded the delivery charge. Who is going to eat room temperature chicken? Compromised? I believed it was. I didn’t want to get food poisoning.
Another point was the customer service. They didn’t care. They care about money, which is fine, but they should also be capable of recognizing a compromised delivery. They are not capable of recognizing that.

Look at how long the recipe says it will last in fridge
Look on the recipe cards to see how long the ingredients will last in fridge because some of the ingredients will expire on that day! No joke. It is like the food has a timer on it.
Great 1st Week
All the meals were tasty. A couple could have used more vegetables & sodium is higher than I’d like, but not overwhelming.
Would recommend
We’ve been using Home chef for a couple months now and we really like it. The food quality is good but it’s not super expensive. The selection is also pretty good and doesn’t taste like you’re eating the same type of meal. Also the prep time is so much faster than other options we’ve done in the past which makes it much more enjoyable. I also really like that you can skip weeks and not be charged. Particularly nice for the summer when we’re on vacation or traveling. Overall I’d recommend

Won’t honor advertised sign up incentives
Was super excited for the Heroes incentive including discounts on the first order, free shipping on the first order. 10% discount on following orders. And a complimentary dessert item “for life”.
The only thing I ended up getting was the % discounts. After reaching out to support, they claimed to fix it, but i feeel like they were just brushing me off since the issue persists.
Just be aware, if you’re signing up for the incentives, you probably won’t get them.

1 star is way more than they deserve

Honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had!! Was nervous the The sesame seed oil mix was gonna be too strong, but it was perfect! Outstanding!
Taught me how to cook & lost weight
I have been using Home Chef weekly since the Shut Down of 2020. We love the unique combinations of flavors and choices. Since learning how to cook at home, I lost 15 lbs and my husband lost 30 and we have kept the weight off. Home Chef changed my life for the better.
