Oily and rich beyond belief but reliable.
I’m three weeks in on the three meals (for two people) option.
Pluses:
- Ordering and delivery have been reliable.
- Nice range of cuisine types.
- Recipes are involved but easy to follow in how they’re explained and laid out. I haven’t been missing any ingredients and so far haven’t burned anything.
Minuses:
- This is NOT healthy eating. It’s restaurant-style eating at home with big portions of oily, buttery food, not really suited to midweek with work and workouts, etc. Today (per the instructions) included kale cooked in a pan of chicken grease, with 20g of butter added. That’s just the kale. I now looked at the fine print and see the recipe is 59g of fat per serving. That’s not healthy for anyone, let alone for someone who has subscribed to a meal kit plan specifically to try to eat healthy. If the team read this please don’t ever put crème fraiche in the recipes. I just need to have enough calories to keep me alive. Don’t clog my arteries along the way.
- For a single person it’s a LOT of food and because the recipes only come for two you have to have every dish at two meals. It takes some work to plan when to eat the leftovers since they’re too big for a normal lunch, and some dishes keep better than others.
You have to watch the expiration dates of individual items closely.
I’m going to try this for another week or two focused on modifying the recipes to be kinder to my heart and waistline but it really is a lot of work to find healthy options within the recipes! If the team is reading this please take the health of your subscribers seriously!

Great meals steep pricing
The meals are delicious with access to a variety of vegetables and spices. Ive really liked every meal ive even veggies or proteins i wouldn’t typically choose. The price got a little expensive so I tried another meal prep company and I realized very quickly they didn’t come close to the quality or taste of the Green Chef. I guess you get what you pay for. So I’m back.

Keto and other things
Fantastic to have keto recipes with variety of ingredients.
On a bad note the way that the food is packed is quite confusing. Few ingredients are in the bag and rest is loose, which makes it a hassle. It would be far easier to have all in a bag except for meat, as it all goes inter fridge anyway, at least for me. I found that mindful chef got it right there.
Another point is that it would be useful if the bag said which week it was rather than just a number.
And finally I find that some food has very short expiration date, only few days after delivery, so if shopping weekly it’s not enough time to spread the food over the week.
Either way the only keto and healthy food, so I hope the feedback is helpful. 💪

Update - Just canceled. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. I encourage you to do the same. Despite a response to this review, they never reached out via email, mobile or the portal. I suspended for four weeks before I resumed. Then this morning we woke up to a warm delivery box that had been somewhere (not with us) and dropped off overnight (I.e. after midnight) while we slept. The customer service response was minimal. Just not adequate. So we just canceled. Felt too much like an abusive relationship. Good food, reasonable app, unfortunate customer service. Not cheap as it is about $14 per serving (one shipment of a meal includes 2 servings for just under $28) for the non-premium meals. And then there is a flat delivery charge regardless of the number of meals ordered. We’ve ordered 3 meals a week (6 servings) for over a year, representing over $4k. Quality ingredients and tasty, nutritious recipes. Prep time is way off - expect typically twice as long as they say. We recently received a meal (two servings) without the salmon. Not really a meal. I reported it and we were only credited with about $9. On a $28 meal that was no longer a meal. And this was only the second time in a year we had reported an issue. Yet only $9? I submitted a complaint through the app and then ultimately was able to also reach a human on chat. After a lot of discussion, I was able to persuade them to refund the full meal ($28). I also then asked to have someone reach out (text, email, phone). I submitted another request for that via the app. It’s been over a full week. No response in the app, over email, or text or phone. No response to the concerns I raised with the customer agent. If I spend $4k in one year on a service, I expect more customer service than what I experienced. And less effort to be refunded for a clear failure to deliver what was paid for. I am surprised to say this but I believe I get more service from my wireless carrier and that is for ⅓ the annual spend. What gives? Maybe someone from Green Chef will respond to this. Maybe they can explain their (a) refund policy when the entree is not included and (b) their engagement strategy from this App and other contacts. Or perhaps this is just another example of the “service slop” that I’m experiencing more frequently. I hope not. But I’m not holding my breath. But you decide. I’ve given you plenty of information. I’ve suspended my account for the next few weeks (i.e., skipping weeks). We shall see. But I will update you here. Check back!
