Help j’ai toujours utilisé Hostel World lors de tous mes voyages et cette appli sauf que dernièrement j’ai un téléphone trop ancien pour faire la nouvelle mise à jour et je n’ai plus accès à l’app… aidez-moi :(

Pire service client possible. J’ai réservé une chambre via Hostelworld avec un dépôt non remboursable. C’est l’hôtel lui-même qui a annulé ma réservation, pas moi — pourtant Hostelworld refuse de me rembourser, alors que je n’ai jamais demandé ni accepté cette annulation. J’ai contacté leur support plusieurs fois et je n’ai reçu que des réponses vagues et automatiques, sans aucune vraie prise en charge du problème. Dès qu’un souci survient, impossible de les joindre, aucune aide réelle. À éviter si vous voulez être protégé en cas de pépin avec votre réservation.

App is shocking
The website itself is fine for booking hostels but always check the hostel website itself as it is usually cheaper.
The other problem I have is with the app, it is very clunky but most of it you can work with. The one thing that makes absolutely no sense and makes me want to stop using the app is that there is no back button once you have gone to view a hostel in more details!! I mean this is just stupid!! You have to make the whole search again from the start!!

The app recommended a particular hostel to me, which I duly booked. I then checked the hostel rules to realise I fell outside of their age range. I immediately cancelled the booking. No refund given from the hostel (yes I took the no refund price). I feel however, the app knowing my age, should never have offered the hostel to me as their recommended one to book. I was in a hurry to book, so trusted their recommendation. Hostelworld and the hostel refused to refund the full amount paid.

This app was very useful when i’m booking multiple hostels, gave me the best prices!

This place has same sex dorms with a bathroom in the dorm, curtains around the bed, cold AC, free breakfast 8-11, towels and washrags, WiFi, free parking, near trolley stop, body wash, shampoo, conditioner,etc. It’s very clean and beautifully decorated in a safe residential neighborhood. Tony, who checked me in, helped me park, escorted me back to the hostel, answered the phone, brought me a cup of water from the kitchen, helped me with my bags and told me I could wash my clothes for free if I left an honest review. This place is fantastic. It’s just a few minutes from Walmart also.

Put great features behind a paywall
I can no longer access the traveller chat, which was an innovative feature this app had. This is because they’ve rolled out their social pass whereby you can access the chat without having a booking if you pay.
Otherwise it tells you that you can make a booking to access the chat. The issue with this is I have 2 bookings right now and it still won’t let me access the chat.
So either this is a bug due to carelessness or they’ve just put a great feature behind a paywall.

Poor functionality, worse customer support
I’ve been trying to cancel a booking for days and the live chat never has agents and directs you to submit a request. You get an automatic reply and the agent who eventually replies repeats the same thing, like they didn’t even read your request / issue. There is no support call center so emailing is the only option. I’ve been having this issue for days and now I’ve lost my free cancellation and have to pay 100% of the cost of my booking when I can’t make it to the reservation, all because their support is horrible and the app keeps crashing when I try to cancel my booking.

It’s an excellent service and so comfortable and happy to use it
Mostly okay, but…
I have used Hostelworld for about three weeks, while I was in Iceland. While it functioned as expected and was useful, now that I am no longer traveling, I am still receiving notifications from the app. I want to turn them off, because I get one or more a day and I don’t want to receive any. After a fair amount of research, I still haven’t been able to do this. So prepare yourself; the app can and will hassle you forever.

Terrible listing accuracy.
Don’t bother applying filters to your search. You will get back whatever they want you to book regardless . It will just list anything in the facilities to get you to book it even if it doesn’t feature at the property. No care taken for listing accuracy.
