Colour co-ordination
I loved this app when it first came out as it helped my brain process my plans like no other app I’d ever had. Without any form of warning, all of my carefully crafted plans had their colours removed and replaced with ugly ones with the option to now pay for the colours I once had. I am gutted and can’t believe they have managed to commodify a calender.

Was good before the paywall
I used Howbout for a couple of years and absolutely loved it. I originally started using it with my family after I moved out, and eventually added friends as all of our schedules became busier and harder to coordinate.
One of my favorite things about the app was how simple it was. It was free, you had access to all the colors, and I could easily color-code different activities and repeating events. As a very Type A person, I had YEARS of my calendar organized by color.
Unfortunately, Howbout changed the way colors work and started putting certain colors behind a paywall. They also changed how repeating activities can be created and color-coded.
I opened the app one day and suddenly all of my previously color-coded activities were grey. Years of organization and visual patterns were basically taken away without warning. That may sound small to some people, but when you’ve used an app consistently for years and built your entire calendar around a feature, it’s incredibly frustrating and honestly feels unfair to loyal users.
I ended up downloading TimeTree, which gives me essentially the same functionality for free, and I’m hoping they don’t eventually make the same kind of changes.
I genuinely loved Howbout, which is what makes this so disappointing, but unfortunately I’ve now uninstalled the app.

Disappointed
I have been using this app for close to 5 years, I have recommended it to so many family and friends. When I am so busy with work, personal appointments, friends and family etc it was great to have this calendar for colour coding all of my events and to keep my right. Just for me to come on today before my holiday finishes to check what I’m working when I go back and the update and ruined the app completely, adding categories to everything, taking away most colours, paying extra for all the colours that were included before!! I am so very disappointed and have now got to sit and organise the calendar from scratch. I am really considering finding an alternative.

new update SUCKS
Some bozo decided to “update” the app and make it so that everything which differentiated this app and made it preferable to other calendars was only accessible for subscribers, when it was previously for free, for YEARS. I assume it’s for shareholders interests, and it’s evident their money-grabbing greed of degradation comes above their passion for quality of product. Will miss what it used to be and am now deleting it.
I want to add, their requests for other users who have complained in reviews to email are useless. Having emailed myself at first, I was only explained how their new system worked, and I don’t see them providing any means to amend their update- or what I’d call a big fat mistake.

Change it back
I’ve used this app for years. I loved howbout before the recent update. I told all my friends to make an account. I appreciated how many colors were on the free option and I had everything color coordinated. The recent update ruined everything. Change it back!
