What's the point of forcing me to download the app in order to view an image when it doesn't even redirect me to the image after taking me to the app

I thought I’d found a good place to escape reality for a bit and just get to look at memes. Unfortunately, within a month, every other meme seemed to be politically based. Too many to just ignore.

Web browsing is repeatedly worsened
Clicking imgur links in Reddit has been awful for some time now - from the “please turn off your ad blocker” pop-up (I’m on vanilla IOS, I don’t have an ad blocker) to randomly jumping to another post when trying to zoom in on a picture. Now today when clicking a link a new unclosable pop-up comes up asking you to download the app which I already had downloaded, but I’m not going to open the app to look at a single linked picture.
Imgur was the GOAT for years, it’s sad to see where it’s gone.
