Decent App - Missing Text Search and Flexibility for 5 Star

Update in Feb 2026:

They made many improvements to the app and I’m happy with it now 5 stars

Old review below (3 Stars):

The app is overall good and nicely polished. The setup of multiple posters is well managed.

Where it looses two star is in the following ways, I’ll update my star rating to 5 star if they are addressed:

1) Discover should be searchable by text names of artists and paintings. If I like Gustav Klimt I have to scroll through endless paintings to find his, why is basic text search not available? It’s too obvious a feature to be excluded from an app like this and is a very big problem for daily usability

2) the faux limitations on discover paintings being applicable to only specific sizes is silly and anti technology. You should treat an inkposter as what it is: a digital pixel canvas, if I can take a source artwork from discover and upload through my own library to get it to fit on any of my inkposters independent of size or orientation (even upside down rotated if I feel like it) then you shouldn’t be limiting me on this discovery page of applying it to any poster however I like. It’s anti flexibility nonsense. If you want to keep advertising that some posters are a best fit for some art you should consider a “this looks best on X” ad on appropriate art. Not a hard lock. It also really doesn’t serve you guys well that the sizes you require for various pieces are constantly out of stock.

Response from developer

thanx for review! Text search in Discover is already available and fully functional — you can search by artist or artwork anytime. Regarding size flexibility, each frame has a different format, and not all artworks fit wider ratios without distortion. To ensure the best visual result, all pieces are manually prepared by our artists for specific formats.

Broken Bluetooth

I’ve had this product and accompanying app since launch. Went to update the picture the other day and Bluetooth cannot connect. Please fix. 1 star review until then

Response from developer

We’re sorry to hear you’re experiencing connection issues. Please check in the app settings whether your frame is updated to the latest firmware version, and make sure you’re using the most recent version of the app as well. Some early versions did have Bluetooth stability issues, but those were resolved quite some time ago, and everything should now work smoothly. Thank you for your feedback — we appreciate it.

This issue was resolved quite some time ago. Please make sure your app is updated to the latest version — it should already include the fix. Thank you very much for your feedback!

Needs Slideshows for Custom Library Art

I got the InkPoster to display artwork made by my children. The app does let me import the custom pictures and send them to the frame, but there is no way to put all of them on a slideshow. The slideshow feature does exit, but only for InkPoster art, not custom art. Please add this feature.

Response from developer

You’re absolutely right: at the moment, slideshow mode is available for curated InkPoster art, while custom images can be displayed individually. The good news is that the ability to create slideshows with images from your personal library is already in development and is planned for release in March. Our team is actively working on it.

Breaks Every Time

Cool product… if it worked. To change an image I have to factory reset the frame, add it back to the app (which works about 20% of the time), and change the photo. Quite a bummer.
I have both the 13” and the 31” and have the exact same issues on both.

Response from developer

We’re really sorry to hear this — that’s definitely not the experience you should be having. Needing to factory reset the frame just to change an image is absolutely not expected behavior. Both the 13” and 31” models should switch images seamlessly without re-adding the device. Please make sure both the app and the frame firmware are updated to the latest versions, as earlier releases did have stability issues that were resolved. If the problem continues, we strongly recommend contacting our support team so they can review your specific case — this may require a deeper connection diagnosis. We truly appreciate your patience and your honest feedback.

Very poor app and documentation

The app is really bad. I had issues sending new pictures to the frame. There is no documentation on how to reset the frame. There are no technical videos. I tried pressing 7 times the on and off button, nothing happened, I tried the reset pin under it, also nothing happened.

Needs a lot of work

Jankiest app I’ve ever used, glitches out constantly requiring that I kill and restart frequently. I’ve already had to factory reset my frame twice and I’ve had it for less than 12 hours. This thing is too expensive for that sort of nonsense. Do better.

Love the concept

At first use I was a bit confused on how to navigate the app but once I got the hang of it, it’s really cool to see how it works with the InkPoster device. I know this brand is new so I can’t wait to see how it improves and is developed as they grow!

It has a potential

I decided to give a chance to the new player on the market. Let’s see where this will go to)

So far so good!

Just got my poster and the app is straightforward and easy to use

Needs better error states and connectivity functions.

A few weeks in, I am
not able to make this app work with ease. I just sent an artwork to the display. It says "sending artwork". So far, every time I want to add a new artwork, the app says that it's uploading. In order to make it work I have to reset the display by holding the power button and trying to reconnect. 5 minutes in this review. Trying to upload an optimized 1600x1200. The app does not provide any insights about the connection, if it's failing or if it's stuck at any specific step. Nothing. No success so far. (Another 2 minutes passed)
Ok let's restart this thing. Pressing power button for 10 seconds. Done. Pressing again: blinks few times. Restarting the app. Sending artwork. Works.
10 minutes. It does not have to be like this.

Update: doesn't work anymore. No connection to the device. Tried everything. Guys you need to fix this.

Product great, app abysmal

This app is horrible. Who wrote the search function? Also, with the gallery art, let me use it whether it fits or not. Let me be the judge. Wish there was more modern art, Asian art, etc. there is not much variety.

More work to do

Had some issues with upgrading to a new iPhone, had to log out and log back in for the poster to show up. Would like more features like accessing schedule and api endpoints

Buggy

The image upload some times takes prohibitively long meaning ten minutes and more for one image! And now the connection is not working any more at all. It just shows that there is no device connected and I should pair a new inkposter. This for whatever reason doesn't work. Online support and manuals also don't help

Breaks all the time

The application’s link to the poster breaks frequently. Often while sending a new image, the application hangs, and there is no cancel, reset or way to recover. If you swipe away the app it can corrupt the local configuration, and you must go through resetting the ink poster to the factory settings and start over. I recommend a couple things to the developers. First of all, if you are using an app building framework or tool, I would ditch it for native programming. I would store the configuration and set up with the user account in the cloud so that it could be recovered, or create some type of configuration back up on the application. Before sending an image, you might try an operation that first establishes that it can communicate with the ink poster and allows the user to debug by turning on and off Bluetooth, etc. Then during the sending process, allow the user to cancel and offer some other diagnostic and troubleshooting. I would recommend more real world QA testing and maybe an option diagnostics when the application fails. Away for users to report the bug from the application.
